PlayStation has been on a roll for some time with consistent releases of well-crafted single-player games. But there is one underrated title whose future is still unclear.
There is one prominent leaker with a great track record of sharing information about Ubisoft’s Far Cry 7, who wasn’t afraid to speak about the questionable decisions of Sony if the company were to greenlight a Returnal sequel instead of the highly demanded Days Gone 2.
PlayStation Could Give Returnal a Sequel Before Days Gone 2
Opinions about games may vary, but some carry much more weight, like a Days Gone sequel being denied by Sony and possibly giving the favor to another developer like Housemarque. While Returnal was an excellent game, it wasn’t that big of a success to warrant a sequel.
J'ai adoré Returnal mais s'ils annoncent une suite alors qu'il a bidé et que Playstation refuse de faire Days Gone 2, je pète mon crane 🤬 https://t.co/WE8OLOGQuh

Sequels are common nowadays, and the gaming industry has taken full advantage of the idea. Sony has released a few sequels to many of its major first-party titles, like God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and many more, and each of these titles was well deserved.
Bend Studio got the short end of the stick when Sony refused to greenlight a Days Gone sequel and mandated the studio to work on a live-service project as part of the company’s initiative to enter the gaming sub-domain.
Not to undermine the success of Returnal, but the roguelike is not everyone’s cup of tea, which is a major factor in its reception. The game had a niche genre and didn’t appeal to everyone. On the other hand, Days Gone also had a messy launch but was loved by many.
Days Gone 2 Would’ve Been a Better Option for PlayStation
Sony values its first-party studios and franchises to the point where a small hint of failure is deemed a total failure in its eyes. The developers were restless and released updates and patches to polish and allow the game to run at a stable rate and performance. However, Sony had other plans for the studio.
Despite the high demand, there is no word about ever revisiting the world of Days Gone, but there is still hope since nothing has been set in stone. Perhaps Sony wants to focus more on the roguelike genre to capture the attention of hardcore fans and gain more coverage and dominance within the game industry.
The leaker was right to voice his opinions and lay off leaking information about Ubisoft and Far Cry 7 to use his platform for more pressing matters. Major gaming companies believe that consumers will always take the cannon fodder games they have been releasing as of late, and it’s wise for them to heed the pleas of the masses.
Returnal was an excellent game, but it wasn’t enough for the community to support the decision for a sequel when there is another game that is far more deserving. Perhaps there’s a reality where PlayStation can give Days Gone the sequel it deserves.
