While some of them think the movie doesn’t need any sequel, most of the fans even started making wild assumptions that the movie will feature Elon Musk and not Mark Zuckerberg this time. One X user (@DannyDrinksWine) wrote: “Featuring Elon Musk?”

No doubt, most people think that the sequel will be based on Musk and his Twitter acquisition. But who knows, what the future holds? Although Fincher is actually cryptic about whether the movie will actually take place. In an interview with The Guardian, he said:

“Aaron [Sorkin, who wrote the film] and I have talked about it, but, um … that’s a can of worms.”

It’s because there’s a lot happened with Zuckerberg and Facebook since the movie came out. The point here to note is that the official sequel has not been announced yet. So, if the sequel is not confirmed, the return of Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg isn’t certain either.

The Social Network (2010) was widely acclaimed and took home three Oscars, including one for Best Adapted Screenplay. If considered the success of the first film, then its sequel is good to go. Plus, in terms of path, there’s plenty of material to explore about Facebook.

The social platform’s history has emerged since it purchased Instagram in 2012 and the major rebrand to Meta in 2021.

That’s why David Ficher‘s concerns about not making the sequel seem valid because it’s questionable whether a sequel would hit the same jackpot commercially in today’s changed theatrical landscape.
