There’s always a lot of back and forth happening on Helldivers 2 forums, and one of the major topics in recent times is the Superior Packing Methodology (SPM) stratagem. The game explains how this is supposed to function, but Helldivers are still confused about its workings.
They have repeatedly asked Arrowhead Game Studios to clarify its function so they can choose whether to use it in-game. Now, Community Manager Twinbeard has answered some FAQs in a recent subreddit post, but this may not be accepted by the fan base.
Helldivers 2 Players Finally Get Answers to Their Superior Packing Methodology Questions
When you look at the upgrade effect in-game for the SPM, it states, “Resupply boxes refill Support Weapons with the maximum number of carriable magazines.” At face value, this seems simple enough. Unfortunately, it’s not how things have played out.
Despite multiple patches and updates to Helldivers 2, it seems the stratagem is not working as described in the upgrade effects. This has led many to question Arrowhead and its implementation of this functionality. In a recent post, Twinbeard answered a few important questions regarding the upgrade.
Some important points to note are that the upgrade is working as intended, affecting boxes in the Resupply stratagem and not the Supply Backpack. Twinbeard also states that it is a shared stratagem, so it won’t matter if the host calls it in or someone else on the team. This was met with a mixed reception by some commenters.
Another comment elaborated on how the misuse of the stratagem can lead to some degree of frustration within the team.
Some question why the cooldown is shared when the Resupply is being called down from an individual ship.
One commenter feels they have wasted their resources in purchasing this upgrade.
It appears that, despite clarifying the use of the stratagem, Helldivers 2 fans are not happy with how it works. Arrowhead has tried multiple times to patch this upgrade, but it seems every time it has failed to hit the mark.
Stratagem Performance Is Not the Only Issue in Helldivers 2
Patches may not have fixed the in-game issues, but they seem to have introduced several new challenges. Many Helldivers 2 players have reported a drop in the game’s frame rate after updates. While they were once enjoying a smooth 120 FPS, many are saying they get anywhere between 40 and 60 FPS, despite having a capable PC system.
This is on top of the existing criticism of various bugs and glitches plaguing the game. One possible reason for these issues may be the Warbond release schedule. Previously, Arrowhead wanted to release a new Warbond every month, but it has since relooked at this timeline and will be releasing them at longer intervals.
The studio needs to address these issues in a much more timely manner to ensure the player count doesn’t bleed further. The PSN Steam account linking incident already reduced the concurrent player count significantly, and the game has not been able to achieve the same peak since.
