Elaborate Prank fools fans of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

The tweet suggested that the sequel to the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake would be present at Friday’s State of Play. It was a simple post, just stating that fans should be on the lookout. It was so elaborately done that people all over the fan-base were fooled into thinking it was real.

In the replies, many thought that the statement may have been referring to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth or Kingdom Hearts 4, both of which Nomura is a massive part of. One user was hoping that the former game would be present at the State of Play.

Another user assumed that there may be a whole new Final Fantasy game in development altogether. Either that or Kingdom Hearts 4.

The Twitter/X account responsible also has ‘parody account’ written in its bio. But since that isn’t one of the first things you see while scrolling the app, there’s nothing to be ashamed of if you also happen to fall for the prank.

Cloud Strife and his friends have left Midgar and continue their journey in pursuit of Sephiroth. The game will ship on two discs, which made some fans very nostalgic, and it will initially only be available on PlayStation, similar to its predecessor and Final Fantasy 16. Square Enix hasn’t specified a release date yet, instead only stating that the game will release in March 2024.

Square Enix has recently been putting a huge emphasis on the Final Fantasy franchise for the company’s profits. In fact, it was recently revealed that the company faced a $2 billion loss in value. The future of the Final Fantasy IP still looks bright despite this, and I, for one, cannot wait for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
