A major curveball was thrown at the end of part 1 that re-wrote how we know Midgar ended up in comparison to how it ended in the original. However this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the inclusion of more is always welcomed however divisive, but if we wanted the original Square Enix have made it clear that it is readily available to play digitally on current-gen systems.

The upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth is being directed by Tetsuya Nomura who worked on the original game as a monster creator, but since that time he has come leaps and bounds and has the mammoth task of directing the full remake trilogy.

In a recent interview with The Guardian Nomura stated the following “If you play right through to the end [of the trilogy], it will link up [to Advent Children], so you don’t need to worry about that.”

With the most recent trailer, we were gifted an absolute treat of visual teasers and places we will be able to explore alongside well-known characters and some unexpected characters on top of that. Anybody who has experienced the original game will recognize a lot of the areas shown in the previews that are being shown to us now.

One thing that was not expected was the inclusion of the side story Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. This story takes place 2 years after the original game, it shows the aftermath of Sephiroth’s actions and his attempt to destroy the planet, but still roaming the earth are the remnants of Sephiroth trying to revive his spirit in order to finish the job that Cloud and his friends but a stop to in the original game.

With Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth we will see the origin of the big bad Sephiroth

With Advent Children being a side story long after the original game we didn’t think we would see any trace of it surfacing in this re-telling of the game, with it including another story, quite a few additional characters, and a destroyed Midgar it would almost be the length of another game.

A confirmed trilogy has been announced for the remakes, and we can almost pinpoint where Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will end and where the third game will begin. However with the inclusion of this additional storytelling shown in part 1 of the remake and the audience not having any idea which direction the story is being taken, it is quite exciting to see what gets brought to the table.

In the remake we saw a character that was not present as a playable character in the original but was mentioned heavily in flashback scenes, this character’s story was told in another spin-off from the series, however, this remake trilogy once it is finished will probably receive a full package situation that tells the whole story in its entirety. The good news is we won’t have to wait much longer to find out what part 2 of the trilogy has in store as the game releases worldwide on Thursday the 29th of February.
