From Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel to Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly leaving its original group of six behind and giving the new, young superheroes their time to shine. One of them is Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams aka Ironheart who made her debut in the Phase 4 film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Just like in The Infinity Saga, it won’t take long for the newer Avengers to collaborate for projects going forward. Although we don’t know if the team-up will be as groundbreaking as the ones previously, thanks to one disappointing review after the other. However, Dominique Thorne is looking forward to working with the young superheroes and she has her eyes set on Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang.

All artists have their list of favorites who they would someday want to work alongside. Talking about Dominique Thorne who has just made her MCU debut a few months ago, she has a young superhero on her radar – Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang aka Ant-Man’s daughter. Talking to The Direct as part of Puff’s Power Pals campaign at Children’s Healthcare Atlanta, she stated that Riri Williams and Cassie Lang share similar experiences of loss which is why she definitely sees the two being a bomb duo.

“Ooh, this is a good one. Let’s see. I would say maybe Cassie Lang, I’d say. I think the two of them, they’re definitely similar age group, all of that. But Cassie also experienced… We all, obviously, know the loss that Riri has experienced. Or if we don’t, we’ll come to know… It’s how she came to be. And so, Cassie though, in a way that I’m not sure we really have seen yet. But she also experienced loss in a different form with the Blip and all that that meant.”

Thorne also pointed out that it would make a pretty interesting storyline to have two characters of different backgrounds and lifestyles interact with each other. Add to that their experience with loss and grief and you’ll have yourself the recipe for a perfect duo.

“And to see the glimpses of her sort of taking up her own mantle and going on her own journey, as alluded to from all the [Quantumania] trailers, I think it would be pretty interesting to see how these two young girls from very different backgrounds, very different lifestyles, but of a similar age, and maybe a shared human emotion of loss, to see how they interact and what they do if they were to get together in this very super world of ours.”

With the way things are currently going on at the DCU, maybe a team-up could actually turn things around for the superhero universe. As previously stated in a scoop by Twitter user @MyTimetoShineH, Avengers: Kang Dynasty will have new Avengers in the lead. So maybe, we’ll get to see Riri and Cassie team up then!

The MCU has lately been quite lackluster, to say the least. The new superheroes have not been welcomed in a way the Studios would have imagined. After disappointing projects back to back, fans are worried that MCU has lost its charm. After hearing about Thorne’s wishes of collaborating with Newton, fans took to Twitter to express their opinions. They aren’t sure if they want to see these two actors come together and stated that it would be just another project no one would care about. Some even called out the pair’s acting skills while some singled out Newton’s disappointing performance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

To be completely honest, MCU’s future is hazy at the moment. There is nothing that can be said with confidence, especially after Quantumania trampled the expectations of the fans who were hoping for Phase 5 to be better than 4. If the team-up becomes a reality, it’s hard to say if fans would care about it or not.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently in theatres whereas Ironheart is expected to release on Disney+ sometime in the Fall of 2023.
