“Who asked for this?”: First-Person Fortnite? Fans Angry with Recent Leaked Screenshots Showing Change of Pace for Popular Battle Royale

First-person Fortnite is here! Fortnite, the wildly popular third-person shooter multiplayer battle-royale for all ages, is coming out with a first-person mode. Rumored time and time again, the newly leaked screenshots show the first-person shooter perspective within the Fortnite engine. Out of the four images, two of them show what’s working as intended such as holding the gun properly and the gun firing while the other two show what needs to be worked on like the aim down sight (ADS) and the reloading animation. Ever since its release, Fortnite has been a third-person shooter that shows no signs of slowing down in popularity. So, who asked for first-person Fortnite?

Fortnite has been a constant in the battle-royale genre since 2017. It’s available on nearly every platform and is friendly to kids & adults alike. The main feature of Fortnite Battle Royale is the building mechanics, adding an extra level of strategy and skill to the game. When Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite, released Zero Build Mode in March 2022, it quickly gained popularity within the player base and became a permanent mode the following month.

Even though Zero Build Mode is taking away a core gameplay mechanic of Fortnite, it gives non-build players a mode to play comfortably. They can now enjoy Fortnite without having to worry about the building mechanics to get victory royales. Some players have said Zero Build Mode saved Fortnite

So, Who Asked For First-Person Fortnite?

Fortnite players who likely want first-person mode officially in the game are the Creative Mode 2.0 community. Epic Games launched Creative Mode 2.0 earlier this year, paving the way for more maps, modes, and fun mechanics for the community to tinker with. Once this mode dropped, the community started making maps such as OG Fortnite and single-player stories like Forest Guardian. Although there are a handful of first-person Creative Mode 2.0 maps, the creators of these maps have to go around obstacles to make the game look first-person. And the first-person maps aren’t the best either. Even when content creators show “first-person” mode Fortnite, it goes back to third-person at some point, making it not a true first-person experience.

To answer: who asked for this? It’s the Creative Mode 2.0 community alongside those in the Fortnite community who prefer first-person shooters over third-person. If these photo leaks happen to be true and Epic Games officially implements first-person mode into Fortnite, we could see another Zero Build Mode situation where the community increases once again. A fresh mode introduced for new and old players to enjoy.
