Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is the latest game from popular developer A44 Games. Described as an action-RPG with “Soulslite” aspects, the title falls under the titular “Flintlock Fantasy” genre. It’s an amalgamation of pseudo-historical, real-life elements with heavy doses of magic mythology.
While it’s a great Xbox Game Pass title, many critics and gamers have bashed the game and outright called it a horrendous title that should’ve never hit the shelves. However, a small section of gamers appreciate A44’s handwork and believe the game could completely revolutionize the genre
Gamers Are Loving Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Despite all its promises, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn‘s launch has proven to be quite disappointing for many. Even though it tries its best to emulate the core experience of a Soulsborne game for a casual audience, players believe it fails to leave a lasting impression and should’ve been axed.
Sure, it’s a game that certainly has its issues but that hasn’t stopped players from enjoying. On Reddit, many feel bad for the game and for A44 Games for the constant hate they’ve been receiving. These players love the game and are excited about what the future holds for this franchise!
It’s clear that, despite its limitations, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn does its best to give us an epic adventure. This semi-open-world action game’s bright spots include a phenomenal premise, a unique tag-team twist on Souls-inspired combat, and an excellent exploration mechanic.
Really sucks that this game is getting tons of hate

The developers have crafted an intriguing world that perfectly blends colonial aesthetics and technology with fantastical creatures and magic. It’s certainly a jack of all trades; you need to give this game a shot to form your own opinion!
Let’s hope with the upcoming updates and patches, A44 Games can fix the title’s technical hiccups and finally polish the game’s last bits to put an end to all the criticism that’s been going around.
Why is Flintlock is Getting Hated By The Community?
Currently, Flintlock isn’t doing great on any of the available platforms. However, its Game Pass version, the most popular one, is the buggiest and most problematic one. Even though Ashen clearly inspires the title’s design, the developers have failed to meet expectations.
Many in the community reported tons of Flintlock bugs, stutters, and screen tearing. The game is significantly worse on the Game Pass build for some unknown reason.
The issue isn’t that bad for gamers on PC. Although it lacks optimization, causing issues even in the best rigs, a few tweaks in the menu can resolve most of these problems.
It’s going to be a while before we can see Flintlock get its feet off the ground. How quickly that time may come remains to be seen, but there’s no way A44 would sabotage a game with such a high potential ceiling.
