MCU’s two most anticipated moments, right now, are the entry of mutants and the X-Men into the main franchise, and the fifth Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Both of these would set up some of the biggest plot shifts, something that fans always love if done right.

While the X-Men would set up new characters and a completely new team, with new powers, personalities, and threats, Avengers 5 would set up the new team of Earth’s protectors, well, now the multiverse’s protectors, setting up future films in a completely different way than that of the mutants.

What Makes The Fantastic Four Different From Other MCU Teams?

Matt Shakman, best known for directing the hit Marvel series, Wandavision, recently gave an interview with ScreenRant, where he touched on the topic of the highly anticipated reboot of Marvel’s first family, the Fantastic Four. He talked about how much making this project meant to him, having grown up on comics of this team specifically and loving everything that they represented. He mentioned that the specific feeling and era that the original comics were set in were extremely comforting for him.

I think I love the space race, Kennedy-era optimism of that world,” said Shakman. “The idea that we can solve all of our problems, that we can, through the right heart, the right mind, and the right technology, conquer any problem.”

The concept that a group of scientists, who believe that all problems can be solved through the right heart, right mind, or the right technology, was something unique about this team in particular.

He then went on to talk about the specific aspects of this team that made them stand out against the Avengers and the X-Men. He stated that the fact that a lot of the people in this team are related makes them very unique. Susan Storm and Johnny Storm are siblings and Reed Richards and Susan Storm eventually end up getting married.

“Not a family you find along the way like the X-Men or the Avengers, but true family with all the messiness of a family like on Monarch. With all the love, the hurt, and the complexity of that.”

He added that even though Avengers and X-Men follow the story of found family, the Fantastic Four possess the essence of messy family dynamics, with all the complexities that come with working, or saving the world, with someone that you are related to.

This Film Will Be Different From All Other MCU Projects

Matt Shakman went on to tell Collider, during an interview, about all of the things that he could do about the film itself. He started by talking about casting, one of the most crucial and anticipated announcements when it comes to this project. He stated that casting had already been done, however, with the SAG strikes still going on at the time, he was unable to share these details. He added that he is very excited for when this gets announced, and understands that the Internet is waiting to find out, adding that they would not be disappointed.

“There will be an announcement at some point! I know the internet is very excited to find out, and I’m excited to share it. I just can’t do it yet,” Shakman said “We are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material,” said Shakman. “I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.”

He then talked about how he believes this film is going to be different from all MCU projects that have ever come before. He then elaborated on this, stating that they are doing the storytelling, as well as the filmmaking aspects of this film very differently, however, it fits perfectly with the material. He then added that this film is going to be unlike, anything anyone has ever seen before, and going to be unique when compared to other Marvel projects.
