Fortnite has made some major changes to its Battle Pass which will probably change the face of live-service games forever, and it is not something that could be overlooked.
The exclusivity of items acquired via the Battle Pass is one of the major reasons that players are engaged in the game for years, increasing the novelty of such items. However, all of that is going to change.
Fortnite’s Latest Move Has Shaken the Gaming World
Fortnite has recently come up with a new framework for its Battle Pass content, including all the items. In a recent note shared on its website, it is specified that the Battle Pass content is going to lose its exclusivity, as the items will all eventually make a comeback 18 months after their release.
This news comes as a shock to many people, as this is not the model on which Fortnite used to function. Fortnite‘s edge lies in the exclusivity of items that people have acquired over the years, including outfits, back blings, pickaxes, emotes, instruments, decals, wraps, loading screens, banner icons, and more.
Even outfits based on popular characters will be coming back to the game after 18 months after their initial release. This decision comes from a place of increasing inclusivity in the game by offering a fair chance to even new players to enjoy the items that were missed by them before.
However, it is still not certain that every item will be coming back, and the list of items that are going to be returned has yet to be officially announced. Answering an FAQ about whether all items are guaranteed to come back after 18 months or not, Epic wrote:
No. Shop selection is dependent on a variety of factors, and there is no guarantee that a Battle Pass item will come to the Shop after this change goes into effect. If an item in a future Battle Pass will never be available outside the Pass, we’ll let you know!
Nevertheless, it is fair to say that this is going to bring a major cultural shift in the world of live-service games, as a lot of other games will likely be looking to bank on this opportunity to remain fresh in the market by adapting to the changes.
This Comes as a Surprise from Fortnite

Fortnite is known for its exclusive skins, outfits, and other items that add to the theme of the seasons, and there is a certain exclusivity attached to them that attracts a lot of players to spend money on the Battle Pass to be the first ones to acquire all that it has to offer.
However, that is bound to change now, as with the recent announcement, it appears that the winds have shifted towards another direction, an unknown place for many games. It is hard to say where it is going to lead us in the future.
Nobody knows where this act might lead us in the future, but it is fair to say it sure is a bold step into the next chapter of live-service games, and Fortnite has taken the initiative to be the first one to take that step.
