The Last of Us has been getting a lot of attention lately with potential leaks, television theories, Neil Druckmann taking over as head of creative, and now it appears The Last of Us Part 2 may be getting a remaster. While it may be surprising that a game which released only three years ago would be getting a remastered version, the source of this information is reliable. According to a recent post on Twitter, by user @TCMGGames, the composer of The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part 2 accidentally let it slip that a “new version” is happening.

The referenced Twitter post says the following:

If you’re a fan of The Last of Us franchise, then this is an exciting revelation. Although it may not be more intel on progress toward a third title, it does indicate the PlayStation 5 will have its own version of The Last of Us Part 2, with even greater graphics and mechanics. One of the reasons, Naughty Dog may be pushing for a remaster is to ensure that the first and second games are both on the PlayStation 5. If, and hopefully when, The Last of Us Part 3 is revealed, all three titles would be available on one PlayStation.

Since the previous installment was only on PlayStation 4, a re-release would bring it to the current generation and allow The Last of Us Part 2 to join the recently released, The Last of Us Part 1 remake. As the franchise is ever expanding, it would not be surprising for the creative minds behind the massively successful zombie game to want everything on a singular platform. This would provide more of an opportunity for newcomers of the series to have quick access to all the titles.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Could See a Much Stronger Debut With Fans

The Last of Us Part 2 may be getting a remaster in the future.

If you recall, when The Last of Us Part 2 released in June 2020, it had an incredible reception with critics. IGN gave it a 10, Game Informer gave it a 10, and it had an aggregate score of 93/100 on Metacritic. However, despite the positive critical response, the sequel to Naughty Dog’s classic The Last of Us title was review bombed by supposed fans. This group of consumers were hateful and fearful of what they have believed was a “woke” liberal agenda wrapped up in the plot. There were negative opinions about LGBTQIA+ characters, the physicality of the character Abby, and a what was called social justice warrior propaganda.

Those who chose to bully, Naughty Dog over The Last of Us Part 2 were wrong to attack the developer for inclusion and diversity. If the game had only been meant as an agenda, it never would have been so successful in sales and critical reception. Despite such an ugly response on the initial release of the game, it may now have a chance to flourish as a remaster.

When The Last of Us sequel came out, it was at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. People across the globe were trapped inside their homes and stuck wearing masks in public. Now that our world has returned somewhat back to normal, there will hopefully be less of a cabin fever frenzy type hate mob concerning the title. It may see much more support upon re-release, in this new era.
