Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has seen a plethora of issues that have plagued the game since the very start. Although it was the mediocre campaign that initially frustrated fans of the franchise, lately the cause for concern has been server failure and hackers.
In fact, on February 23rd Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone temporarily disabled Ranked Play, Zombies, and Ranked Resurgence, to fix faulty servers.
While these problems that are now afflicting the Activision Blizzard titles could be experienced by any developer, it is how the company responds that will leave the greatest impression.
Activision Blizzard Has Provided Gamers with Free Rewards in Response to Call of Duty Server Issues
Although fans are certainly not going to be happy about missing gaming sessions of Modern Warfare 3 or Warzone, Activision Blizzard is taking steps to remedy the situation.
Seemingly as a way of showing appreciation to the fanbase and to apologize for the servers, players have been treated to in-game rewards.
The main Call of Duty page on Twitter/X has thanked players for their patience, and provided them with two rewards. The first was that the 2XP event, which had been ongoing, was extended until February 27th at 8AM PT.
However, if you are seeing this information now, then the time has already passed for you to fully appreciate this extension. Given the fact this benefit expired only 12 hours after the tweet was made, it’s likely many gamers did not reap this reward.
The second benefit, which will probably be more useful to the majority of players, is a collection of one hour 2XP tokens that have been added to everyone’s inventory. These tokens will be for the player, battle bass, and weapons.
Although this may not be exactly what fans were wanting, the silver lining is that the servers are now back online.
Lately It Seems Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Players Can’t Catch a Break
As previously mentioned, Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone have been the targets of hackers and cheaters in the past few months. These issues have frustrated many fans who simply want to enjoy the game the way it was intended to be played.
While there is only so much Activision or Sledgehammer can do, some believe a failure to take action is the exact reason such conduct is rampant. And, with situations like these server issues continuing to rise, gamers are putting less faith in Call of Duty than ever.
The last blunder that affected Modern Warfare 3 was less than a week ago, when the GassedUp bundle was accidentally posted at an increased cost. This ended up being another semi-apology from the Call of Duty developers, where refunds were issued to some more fortunate users.
The latest Call of Duty games are seeing significant issues, and if this level of care becomes commonplace, it may spell further disaster for the franchise.
