The iconic Friday the 13th franchise, which has haunted audiences for over four decades, is coming back with its prequel series, titled Crystal Lake. The new show has promised to terrify a new generation of fans, garnering significant buzz thanks to the involvement of its new showrunner, Brad Caleb Kane.

Brad Caleb Kane is Attached to Friday the 13th Prequel Series
The Friday the 13th franchise has garnered a significant fan base over the years thanks to its horrifying elements that continued to captivate audiences’ attention.
As the franchise is set for resurrection with its prequel series titled Crystal Lake, it marks a major moment in the franchise as A24’s prequel series will be the first since the 2009 reboot.
Since the first movie was released in 1980, the franchise has expanded into 12 films, novels, comic books, and video games, making Jason Voorhees a household name synonymous with terror.
As the project is moving forward at A24, Deadline reported that acclaimed showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has been attached to the project, serving as the series creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
He said of his hiring,
From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask…I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.
Before Kane, Bryan Fuller (Star Trek: Discovery, Hannibal), was set to helm the project, before announcing his exit in May, noting that “A24 has elected to go a different way with the material.”
Apart from Kane, the show’s exec producers also include Victor Miller (who wrote the screenplay for the original 1980 film), Miller’s copyright attorney- Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, and Robert P. Barsamian.
Brad Caleb Kane’s Involvement is an Absolute Game Changer
The appointment of Brad Caleb Kane might be a spectacular addition to the projects as his work speaks for itself. Be it Tokyo Vice or Black Sails, he has showcased his ability to create complex, immersive narratives that captivate audiences.
He has a good experience in curating gritty, character-driven stories, making him a perfect creative addition to work on the psychological aspect of the franchise.
Back in 2015, Kane served as the writer and supervising producer of the series Black Sails. As the show is known for its intricate yet complex storytelling narrative, compelling characters, and intense action sequences, it is expected that he would bring the same magic to the upcoming prequel show.
Not just that, he is no stranger to the horror genre as he is also involved as an exec producer for an IT prequel series, titled Welcome to Derry. Not only that, but he is also co-managing the show-running duties with Jason Fuchs, which is scheduled to premiere in 2025 on HBO with nine episodes.
