One of the best-received surprises by fans that came out of Gamescom 2024 was the spectacular trailer for Secret Level, an anthology of shorts about video games from the creators of LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS.
With Deadpool director Tim Miller at the helm, this series of shorts includes animations featuring characters and universes from Mega Man, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and much more. This anthology will contain 15 episodes in total and will premiere in December on Prime Video. Given the positive reception of this trailer, it’s likely that the studio is already working on a second season.
Secret Level Will Feature a Variety of Popular Video Game Sagas like Ghost of Tsushima, Mega Man, Concord, and more
This new anthology from the creators of the acclaimed LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS has gamers more than excited to see their favorite video game sagas adapted in this anthology called Secret Level.
The variety of video games chosen for the 15 shorts that will be part of this series come from very popular sagas and well-known companies. The series will feature titles from PlayStation, Capcom, and Unreal, among many others.
The overall list is very diverse, indicating that it will cover all kinds of video game characters, whether humanoid or not, giving visibility to all universes.
Concord, Armored Core, Dungeons & Dragons, Crossfire, and Exodus—these five names are from fairly well-known franchises that will have their chance to shine with adapted stories of the characters within those universes. All types of genres will have their moment in the spotlight.
Prime Video May Have One of the Year’s Most Interesting Products
Joining the previously mentioned names are Honor of Kings, Mega Man, PAC-MAN, and New World: Aeternum—the latter being quite obvious since Amazon was responsible for its development. For its part, PlayStation has already announced that it will be in the shorts.
The trailer even shows Kratos from God of War, as well as a glimpse of Ghost of Tsushima. An exclusive short will feature several Sony franchises, as confirmed.
Rounding out this list are Sifu, Spelunky, The Outer Worlds, Unreal Tournament, and Warhammer 40K. Each of these games has had its moment to shine, but this is a rare chance to use the best technology and animations to tell these stories differently.
The fact that indie titles such as Sifu and Spelunky are included gives fans hope for a more independent presence in future seasons.
Secret Level has the potential to become one of the most-watched series of the year. The reception on social media has been overwhelmingly positive, and all video game fans are eagerly awaiting the final result.
