Following his Hollywood run that spanned over three decades, Christian Oliver left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry before his tragic passing in a plane crash off Bequia. Oliver, who has worked with several Industry icons, died after his small passenger plane crashed off the coast of the Caribbean Island last Thursday, which also took the lives of his two young daughters and the pilot.

Five Christian Oliver films fans should be aware of
Speed Racer
Probably one of the most misunderstood films of the 21st century upon its release, The Wachowskis’ return to the big screen after The Matrix trilogy failed to make it big at the box office. But despite the diminishing box-office returns, Speed Racer deservingly earned a cult following in the later years and is still cherished among cinephiles for leaning heavily towards Formalism.
Valkyrie
Later the same year, Christian Oliver joined forces with another acclaimed filmmaker Bryan Singer for the WWII thriller Valkyrie, which went toe to toe with Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds. And while the Brad Pitt-led film was the better WWII-based film among the two, the Tom Cruise-led movie was still a modest success despite being criticized for its historical inaccuracy.
The Good German
Prior to working with The Wachowskis and Bryan Singer, Christian Oliver starred in Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh’s Noir thriller The Good German. Oliver starred opposite Industry giants Cate Blanchett and George Clooney in the movie, which received mixed reviews upon its outing, with one of the major complaints against the WWII thriller being its reliance on style over substance.
The Three Musketeers
From the maker of the 2002’s Resident Evil, Paul W. S. Anderson’s 2011 adaptation of The Three Musketeers starred Christian Oliver in the role of Venetian Nobleman. While it doesn’t hold a candle to Richard Lester’s 1973 release, the 2011 reinterpretation still has its charm and was a notable success at the box office, which made over $132M throughout its theatre run.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Oliver’s latest credit was in the fifth installment of the iconic IP as one of the voice actors, which witnessed Harrison Ford reprise his role as the Daredevil archaeologist under James Mangold’s leadership. Unfortunately, Dial of Destiny was one of the many big-budget Hollywood releases that failed to make an impact at the box office.
But Christian Oliver’s voice work in Dial of Destiny wasn’t the last of him in showbiz, as prior to his untimely demise, the actor completed filming Forever Hold Your Peace. Reflecting on the tragedy, Forever Hold Your Peace director Nick Lyon paid a heartfelt tribute to Oliver by posting a photo of the two together on the sets of the movie.
