FromSoftware, the creator of legendary games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, is reportedly working on a new title for the PlayStation 5. According to a discussion on ResetEra, the studio has been working on the game since 2020.
The studio’s latest game is Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, which launched on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. However, its last proper Soulslike was Elden Ring, which has been a massive success worldwide.
Gamers Are Eagerly Waiting for a Bloodborne Sequel, and This Might Be It
Based on the discussion, it seems that the new project by FromSoftware has been fast-forwarded, given the developer’s success with Elden Ring. Even since its launch, the game has crossed 10 million copies in sales, which only sets bigger standards for how much it can sell through the new game. However, considering that it is a new title exclusively being made for the PlayStation 5, sales might differ based on exclusivity.
The ResetEra post initially started as a conversation around an upcoming Bloodborne movie that’s being produced by Sony. Someone by the name of Guarana wrote about how FromSoftware and Sony are collaborating (yet again) on a new title.
There is a chance that the new title might just be a sequel to Bloodborne, considering its success and exclusivity to the PlayStation 4. If we see how The Last of Us also made it into a movie alongside selling a remake version of the game on newer consoles, a similar journey can be considered for Bloodborne as well.
Based on the speculations, 2025 is a date players can look forward to for FromSoftware’s next PlayStation exclusive. Right now, Bloodborne is available to all PlayStation Plus members as part of their subscription, and the game is often recommended even to those who are new to the genre.
FromSoftware Might Take the Soulsbourne Genre to Newer Heights
While players look forward to Elden Ring’s DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, it makes us wonder what the next exclusive title on PlayStation 5 will be all about. If the game by FromSoftware is indeed the ‘next Bloodborne,’ then expectations are high and standards need to be scaled up.
Four years ago, a Reddit post spoke about Hidetaka Miyazaki’s love for Bloodborne. The president of FromSoftware expressed his love for the game when asked about his favorite title:
This is a very hard question, and, comparatively, it’s like you had three or four children and someone asked ‘which one is prettier? I’m gonna answer ‘all of them.’ But if I were to say which one stayed in my heart the most, it’s Bloodborne. It’s the one that marked me the most. I believe I did it my way, the way I wanted.
There’s no doubt about FromSoftware’s ability to create yet another experience filled with masterful storytelling and a non-linear approach to map design. Given Elden Ring’s size and scope, the next game can be an open world where we explore dark settings and uncover mysteries as we wish. On the other hand, a more tightly structured, linear gameplay would also do Bloodborne’s universe a favor.
Making use of the PlayStation 5’s powerful hardware will only take things to the next level. After all, FromSoftware’s games thrive on solid gameplay that blends multiple weapon move sets, combos, and item management. Furthermore, the visuals will be a compelling take on a dark and rich atmosphere that brings out an evil world in beautiful imagery.
