Bloodborne originally had two DLCs planned

Back in 2015, FromSoftware’s Masaaki Yamagiwa in an interview revealed that the developers actually planned to release two different DLCs for the game. However, Yamagiwa said,

“We were originally planning on doing two sets of DLC. It was decided that with one set, we’d be able to do more with it, and have more volume for players to play with.”

Yamagiwa said,

“At least in Japan, the plan was to release the DLC in November. I should mention, though, we finished making the game and then moved into production on the DLC. It took that long, but that’s because of the sheer amount of volume. We’re sorry it took so long! But it’s as fast as was possible considering what’s in it.”

While Bloodborne‘s main game took approximately 30-40 hours to complete, The Old Hunters DLC offered around 8 hours of content. The DLC featured around 10 new weapons. This includes a whip that converts into a katana sword, which is combined with a stun bomb allowing players to use it before diving in for a succession of high-damage attacks.

The Old Hunters also introduced new NPCs that could be summoned. These NPCs were incorporated into Bloodborne’s existing campaign. Fans expected the the Chalice Dungeons to be impacted in the DLC, however, that did not happen.

Yamagiwa said,

“We won’t be touching them in the DLC, but we’re thinking of making them easier for everyone to play. But that’d be as part of an update, not part of the DLC.”

The DLC was also well-received by the audience and critics alike. It enjoys a rating of 87% on Metacritic. Similarly, IGN rated the DLC an impressive 8/10.
