Popular for starring in Games of Thrones as Daenerys Targaryen, Emilia Clarke made her MCU debut in the recently released Marvel show, Secret Invasion. The actress has been associated with some of the most popular franchises in Hollywood, including Terminator and Star Wars, and has been praised for her performances in these projects as well. Starring in such films also allowed her to add new dimensions to her acting career by playing more versatile characters.
However, despite featuring in these franchises and a show like Game of Thrones, the actress left many surprised as she called Marvel the best franchise.
Emilia Clarke Says Marvel is the Best Franchise
Emilia Clarke made her foray into action movies by starring in the 2015 film Terminator Genisys. She impressed everyone as she took on the iconic role of Sarah Connor, portrayed by Linda Hamilton in the earlier movies. And now she has joined Samuel L. Jackson and the cast of Secret Invasion for her first MCU project.
She portrays G’iah, a Skrull shapeshifter who joins the leader of a radical Skrull faction in his mission to invade Earth. And the actress has shared that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the best franchise. The Last Christmas star was asked how different it was to work in the MCU for her.
Answering the question, she said, “It’s just the best one. It’s such a pedigree in its own right. It lives in its own level that’s separate from everything else.” She further called the series “marvel,” stating that it’s not just a superhero franchise and is totally different.
Clarke also stated that her experience working on Game of Thrones was completely different as they did not know that the show would become so big. However, in the case of Marvel, it is already established and is “doing their A-game.” As people started bashing the actress for calling Marvel “the best,” her fans came in for her support.
Fans Defend Emilia Clarke After Her Statement
Emilia Clarke’s statement regarding Marvel being the best franchise was not received very well by many. People who didn’t agree with the actress took to social media to bash her by reminding her that she used to star in one of the most popular TV series, Game of Thrones.
As some shared their disagreement with her, fans also came forward to support the actress against the backlash. Fans have stated how the Me Before You star faced a hard time filming the HBO series, where “producers demanded she strip down nearly every day.”

I know it’s Throne and she was supposed to be nude a lot because shows on that network have a lot of sexuality but I sense a hint of how that could be abused by grown up perverted men who work on the show. Definitely would make people feel uneasy.

Hell, thats not even all of it. The showrunners (by their own admission) didn’t know what they were doing.
They constantly made unreasonable demands of everyone, not just actors, but directors, makeup artists, set designers.

They claimed that it doesn’t come as a surprise that she had more fun filming Secret Invasion, rather than Game of Thrones. Some fans also defended her by clarifying that she only wanted to say that MCU has been around for years and is already established as a successful franchise. Others also stated that they are happy that she is comfortable in her work environment and is enjoying it.
