Gamescom 2023 is firing on all cylinders, and there’s a lot of exciting news for Sonic the Hedgehog fans. We’ve just got more information regarding the upcoming Sonic Superstars, as well as a big new update for Sonic Frontiers. The release date for Sonic Superstars has just been revealed, and it’s not far off at all. Meanwhile, Sonic Frontiers fans have even more content to look forward to.

Sonic Superstars is the next Sonic the Hedgehog, and unlike the last title, Sonic Frontiers, this game will feature classic 2D gameplay, and from what we’ve seen so far, the visuals look amazing. It feels like they’re merging the old and new, and the Sonic community could not be more excited. Meanwhile, for fans of the latest iteration of the Blue Blur, there is still a lot of content coming to Sonic Frontiers, as shown in the trailer at Gamescom 2023.

Sonic Superstars Gets Awesome Multiplayer Trailer at Gamescom 2023 and Reveals Release Date

Sonic Superstars will feature co-op gameplay, both locally and online. It looks like you’ll be able to play with friends and complete normal levels, or face off in the game’s Battle Mode, which seems heavily inspired by Super Smash Bros. You’ll also be able to race your friends and see which one of you has better knowledge of the level.

Other than that, we got a better look into the game’s level design. Power-ups like turning into rockets will probably be very beneficial against bosses like Dr. Eggman, who was also shown in the trailer. Overall, the game looks fantastic. It feels like it’s catering to both old and new fans, which is exactly what you want from a long-running franchise. And now we even have a release date. Sonic Superstars will release on October 17, 2023, making October one of the most stacked months for big games in recent memory.

New Free Update Announced for Sonic Frontiers at Gamescom 2023

Sonic Frontiers is getting a free update, titled The Final Horizon. According to the trailer, there will be even more story to play through, as well as being able to play as different characters, possibly Knuckles the Echidna, Miles “Tails” Prower, and Amy Rose. New challenges will also be added to the game, which should keep you engaged for quite a while.

Sonic Frontiers was praised for its incorporation of the Sonic formula in an open-world setting at the time of launch, but many thought that there was still room for improvement. It seems like Sonic Team is trying to make the game even better than it already is, as the game has been getting improvements and updates since its release. Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon will release on all available platforms as a free update on September 28, 2023.
