The episode showcased not just Garp in a way that fans had been rooting for him to be seen as but it also gave a glimpse of just how massive the power scaling can turn to in the series. Out of all the latest episodes and chapters, his Galaxy Impact has taken the fanbase by storm.

Shanks’ Divine Departure Has a New Contender

When Shanks’ iconic episode came out, One Piece fans were ecstatic. They had found an extraordinary display of power that showcased just how powerful of a character he was. Moreover, there was a constant need to see more of his potential. If one slash alone could do such destruction that he was in full force would make him one of the strongest characters in the series, more than he already is.

The effect that Divine Departure had on the One Piece fandom was easily large-scale. It provided a sense of just how much potential these characters can have despite having somewhat secondary roles in the series as compared to the Straw Hat Pirates. While characters like Luffy and Zoro have their own sets of skills, Shanks stole the show in a heartbeat.

That was until Garp came along. Episode 1115 of One Piece came with a game-changer for all those who doubted the Vice Admiral’s strength and also for those who fawn over Shanks and his overpowered attack. The moment he went up against Aokiji, things took a different turn.

The way he fought against Aokiji for Koby was a sight to behold with the Galaxy Impact. While the Divine Departure is a single slash, the Galaxy Impact is a single punch. The very thought that these singular strikes could cause such destruction is already a spectacular feat but the way Garp executed his own was on another level.

He has always been a likable character and for him to get the spotlight in such a way easily makes fans forget Shanks and his display of power in a heartbeat. Eiichiro Oda would need to give Shanks something much bigger to take his throne back.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
