One Piece has delivered many characters who are known to be legends in terms of strength and power. Among those, the two most debatable characters are Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger. One is the hero of the Marines while the other is the King of the Pirates. Both have been known to be rivals since the start of their journey and there has never been a clear winner declared till now. The debate of the battle between Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger has been going on among the fans since the beginning and it doesn’t seem to see the end of it.
Many fans believe that Garp in his prime was stronger than Roger in his prime, and he was the only marine ever who was able to corner the Roger Pirates, though he could never catch them. Let’s take a look at how strong are these two individuals.
How Strong is Monkey D. Garp?
Monkey D. Garp, better known as Garp the Fist, is a well-known and formidable Marine Vice Admiral. He is the father of Monkey D. Dragon, the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy, and the adoptive grandfather of Portgas D. Ace. His exploits as a Marine soldier earned him enormous renown and prestige, with his acts during the God Valley Incident in particular earning him the title of Hero of the Marines. In his prime, he was known for repeatedly cornering Gol D. Roger, as he was one of the few persons capable of fighting the Pirate King. Roger claims that he and Garp nearly killed each other numerous times during their battles.
Garp was also capable of destroying mountains with his fists. Garp is held in high regard by both Marines and pirates. Garp would have been a true monster in his heyday, having faced up against so many famous names. Garp, even in his old age, was so confident in his abilities that he said he would have killed Akainu when he killed his grandson Ace.
How Strong Was Gol D. Roger?
Gol D. Roger, sometimes known as Gold Roger, was a legendary pirate who held the title of Pirate King as captain of the Roger Pirates and owned the legendary treasure known as One Piece. Roger was known as the man who accomplished the impossible: he conquered the Grand Line and accumulated a tremendous fortune. Roger was acclaimed as one of the greatest pirates of all time, if not the greatest, and was thought to be practically invincible in warfare. Even after death, he retains the highest prestige among all pirates as the Pirate King. Only one person is known to have ever matched Roger in battle: Monkey D. Garp.
Both Roger and Garp are the power giants of the series and their battle is still a mystery that may be unveiled in the future, but considering the current storylines of both characters, there is no way to determine who is stronger – The Hero of the Marines or The King of the Pirates.
