One of the biggest moments for One Piece in 2023 was the revelation of Luffy’s Gear 5 during the Wano arc when he was fighting Kaido. The standout moment of One Piece’s Wano Arc was the battle between Kaido and Luffy. Before their epic battle in Onigashima, Luffy and the other fighter engaged in several fights, with each encounter ending badly for Luffy.

But after losing three times and coming dangerously close to death, Luffy unleashed a power never before seen—the Gear 5. The Gear 5’s strength was so incredible that it overshadowed the strongest creature in the One Piece universe. Kaido becomes even more perplexed as he observes Luffy’s ability to make objects in his environment elastic and stretchy.

Although Kaido had fought many battles before and many believed that Kaido would have won if he was at full strength, Gear 5 Luffy played with Kaido, ultimately defeating the scariest Yonko in One Piece.

Gear 5 is Luffy’s Strongest Ability in One Piece

Gear 5 is the Gomu Gomu no Mi in its awakened form, strengthening the rubbery body of the user. Similar to a Paramecia awakening, it also gives the user the ability to change and manipulate their surroundings. This power was acquired by Luffy in his decisive battle against Kaido on Onigashima.

After awakening up, the Gomu Gomu no Mi (originally named the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika) gives its users more god-like strength and flexibility to use their rubber-like body however they please, as demonstrated by Luffy’s fighting style.

When Luffy is in this state, his heartbeat becomes rhythmic, something Zunesha has called the “Drums of Liberation.” The power of this fruit is said to be “the most ridiculous power in the world” and he proved it by not only defeating but playing with Kaido who is not only the strongest creature in the world but also the scariest Yonko in One Piece.

Luffy Played Jump Ropes With Kaido

In all of One Piece, the fight between Kaido and Luffy is one of the most absurd ones. While fighting the Gear 5 Lufy, Kaido decides to swallow Luffy but the plan backfires. Luffy makes Kaido’s stomach swell and causes chaos inside of him by changing into a balloon.

Luffy turns into a giant and makes use of Kaido as a skipping rope after emerging from inside of it. Luffy has undergone such a drastic transformation that as the battle goes on, even his allies can no longer identify him.

While Luffy jumps around erratically, Kaido follows him around. Luffy is unharmed even by the blows Kaido manages to land on him. Rather, they cause a brief distortion of his form, turning Luffy into an unstoppable threat. Ultimately, Luffy defeats Kaido and wins the battle against one of the scariest Yonkos of One Piece.
