When it comes to Gears of War: E-Day, expectations are sky-high as the game will look to rejuvenate the franchise. So far, only a few details have been revealed about the game, but the teaser was enough to throw the whole fanbase into a frenzy. Of course, fans have already started compiling a long list of features they would like to see in the game.
While most fans are excited about the gameplay and mechanics, one feature that has been a thorn in previous Gears of Wars games is the ability to emote voice lines. Although nothing significant, The Coalition should consider not adding the feature to the upcoming game altogether.
Why Voiceline Emotes Are So Frustrating in Gears of War Games
At first glance, emotes seem like an innocuous feature that spice up the experience. However, one aspect has been bugging many players for a while: the constant spamming of emotes.
A harmless feature that doesn’t add much value to the gameplay quickly becomes toxic and annoying when players constantly abuse it. Especially in Gears of War games, where emotes aren’t helpful, it becomes a negative rather than a positive feature.
Is there a way to turn off emote spammers?

A Reddit user, u/Kjrsv, has pointed out how some players constantly spam voce line emotes, ruining the experience for everyone else. Furthermore, there isn’t any way of turning it off apart from lowering the volume of dialogue from settings, but then players won’t hear any character sound.
If The Coalition wants to deliver the best Gears multiplayer experience, it needs to consider removing the feature altogether or adding an option that allows players to turn off emotes specifically. Developers can also add a longer cooldown time so players cannot continuously spam emotes.
Players Going AFK in Ranked Games is Another Issue E-Day Needs to Avoid

For a while now, ranked matches in Gears 5 & 6 have been plagued by AFKers and ragequiters. The King of the Hill mode, while offering a great competitive playground, is infested with players who do not respect the integrity of ranked matches and go AFK at will.
Despite the developers imposing a strict penalty system, players still go AFK, which has been the case for a while now. Some bans last for two years, which seems more than enough on paper, but given that only a little has improved, The Coalition needs to take a different approach with E-Day.
One step developers can take to deliver a better experience in E-Day is implementing a loss forgiveness system. This is a standard system in many competitive games, which prevents teammates of quitters from losing ranked points unnecessarily.
Furthermore, this will reduce trolling in ranked games as teammates of quitters will face lesser consequences. What do you think about the emote voice lines in past Gears games? Have you experienced players spamming emotes in matches? Let us know in the comments below.
