Gears of War: E-Day stormed onto the scene in a rather surprising and talked-about in-engine trailer at the Xbox Game Showcase. Ever since then, fans can’t hold off their excitement about the upcoming title in the long-lasting franchise.

Without a set release date yet, the wait for the game to come out will be a long and boring process, but fans aren’t afraid of spicing things up with a few of their own ideas on what the game should include. One fan has drawn inspiration from Starfield and thinks that E-Day should launch with mod support.

Gears of War Doesn’t Have a Rich Mod History

The first game in the franchise came out all the way back in 2006. Since then there have been five main titles and three spin-off games. Fans have praised the original trilogy the most, with Gears 5 rendered as a lost cause as it lacked in story and innovation.

The majority of these games didn’t have official mod support and players resorted to unofficial modding options. Nevertheless, Gears of War 1 came with the official Unreal Development Kit, which allowed players to create custom maps and game mods.

However, times have changed since, and the PC modding community has become stronger than ever and when you add the fact that Gears of War: E-Day is an exclusive, adding mods support can only benefit both the game and the console.

Later games came with a few options, with Gears of War: Judgement having the option to add Berserker to its Overrun mod, which is rather praised by the community.

Bethesda’s Starfield is the prime example when it comes to modding success. The game was released in September 2023 and if there wasn’t an option to create and add mods, Bethesda’s latest space RPG would be dead on arrival.

Thanks to the fan base and modding support the game is very much alive, despite its lackluster campaign and unchallenging combat

While Gears of War always excelled with its in-game mods and single-player campaign, recent titles didn’t live up to the expectations, especially Gears 5.

However, one fan took to Reddit to share his opinion on Gears of War: E-Day saying that the game should support official mod tools. He continued to say that Gears of War with mods would be a tremendous success.

One fan nodded to the discussion by saying that Gears 5 has two mods and while that is still a small number they said the mods change the game for the better.

The online community is overrun with fans being vocal about official modding support for Gears of War: E-Day, with one fan saying that they would like to see a map customizer and an option for custom game modes.

Another fan added to the sentiment by saying that this option would be fantastic with Unreal Engine 5.

Original Gears of War was built in Unreal Engine 3, which has been long forgotten, and with Unreal Engine 5 as the ultimate weapon, the latest game in the franchise will be a thing of beauty.
