Gears of War is a series associated with the Xbox brand. There haven’t been a lot of titles for Microsoft that have stood out and attracted fans as much as the series.
However, most series fans agree that its quality and popularity plummeted after the first three games. So much so that the last game in the series, released in 2019, is considered one of the worst, if not the worst, games in the series.

Gears of War 5’s Ending Has Left Fans Confused 5 Years Later, Too
After Judgement, the beginning of the end for Xbox’s premier third-person shooter series looked inevitable. Shortly after, The Coalition presented Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a remaster of the first game. Unfortunately, every installment in the series since then has been a letdown for most fans.
However, the ones who enjoyed the new beginning with a storyline involving Kait, JD, and Del were left dumbfounded after the ending of Gears 5. Even in 2024, 5 years later, fans are confused about why the team deemed it fit to choose only one out of Kait’s two companions:

Strangely, until the last game in the series, there hadn’t been an option to save a character at another’s cost. Hence, it makes for a valid question for fans. A fan suggested that it was incredibly similar to the mechanics put into games by developers like Telltale Studios:

While it was metaphorically cruel of the writing team to let the player choose between two pivotal characters, their decision with the next game only made things worse for people looking forward to closure.
Gears of War E-Day Seems Great, but Now That It’s Confirmed, There’s a Problem
It is common knowledge among Gears of War series fans that the original trilogy was excellent and represented the golden era for the franchise. That is precisely why E-Day‘s announcement during Xbox Game Showcase 2024 was incredibly well-received, especially by fans of the original games.
Looking at Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in their prime was a visual delight for fans. However, fans expecting The Coalition to complete the Kait/ JD trilogy after leaving it on a cliffhanger were understandably gutted.
But again, it could’ve been that Gears of War: E-Day was used as a bargaining chip to save the franchise from sinking into oblivion. Overall, suffice it to say there is no definite release timeline for the upcoming game, so the Gears of War 6‘s future remains in flux.
