People expected a new game in the series, but no one thought Gears of War: E-Day would take the approach it has. Offering players a chance to experience the dreaded events that set into motion the events of the games we have played to date.

It seems the announcement has done more than give fans of the series a new title to await. People are now flocking to the 2015 Gears of War: Ultimate Edition remaster to once again enjoy the events of the first game, gain all achievements, and have a refresher for the next in the series.

The announcement of a new game in any franchise ultimately leads to a spotlight on titles already existing within the series. People want to go back and either refresh their memories of the events of the previous games or just get back into the swing of things with some practice.

It seems the same is occurring with the remaster of the first Gears of War. When E-Day was announced during the Xbox Showcase, everyone was excited to see what direction The Coalition had decided for its next entry. Well, the studio wants to turn back the clocks and showcase the horror and despair felt by the characters during the emergence event of the Locust horde.

The excitement is so great that TrueAchievements has revealed that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition experienced a 323% rise in Xbox players in the week after the reveal of E-Day. The game is set 14 years before the events of the first game, so it would make sense for people to go back to the original. All the games being available on Xbox Game Pass makes it easier for people to access the titles.

It’s not only the original; the second and third games in the franchise have also witnessed an uptick in active players, and it’s all likely due to the announcement. The game is set for a 2025 release, but just like Halo fans, there’s more than enough content to keep them busy until release day.

New Game in the Series To Explore Characters with a New Perspective

Marcus and Dom have never faced a threat like this before.
Marcus and Dom have never faced a threat like this before.

Given that the game is a prequel, we are now going to see both Marcus and Dom uniquely. They aren’t pushovers, but they have never faced foes such as the Locusts before, making them appear not only out of their depth but also fairly vulnerable.

The Coalition has stated already that they think fans of the series know the approach they will be taking. If we are to go by the reveal trailer, the studio is building a dark and gritty experience where the Locust will once again become reviled and terrible creatures as opposed to simple cannon fodder.

Along with a fresh new story, the studio has also mentioned there will be many gameplay mechanics. Matt Searcy, the director of the game, has gone so far as to say the new entry will be unlike any previous Gears of War game.
