Jujutsu Kaisen could not have asked for a better protagonist than Yuji Itadori. He does not only fit perfectly in the category of the main character role but also creates a presence that gives focus to other characters giving them an equal opportunity to shine. In addition to that, his character development has been the most rapid as compared to other characters.
He can adapt the role of a high school jujutsu sorcerer/main character perfectly as he has a modern vibe smoothly mixed with passion and motivation to help others making him the perfect protagonist. However, in an alternate universe, there is a chance that Yuji Itadori would not have been the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Gege Akutami, the creator of the series, was once asked if Yuji Itadori never had any curse energy, what would have been his occupation. Akutami already had decided early on what job they would have given Itadori if he hadn’t become a Jujutsu sorcerer.

When Itadori was introduced to the story, he was shown as a regular student who was good at sports and was quite popular in his school. He was a normal human who was raised by his grandfather, whom he had a deep connection with, and was disheartened when he died.
As the story progressed and Itadori became the vessel of Sukuna by eating one of his fingers, his life changed utterly and he became a part of something big, made new friends, learned about curses and cursed techniques and now he is fighting to free the world from curses.
However, what would have happened if Itadori hadn’t eaten Sukuna’s finger and entered the Jujutsu world? What would his life would have looked like? Akutami may have not answered these questions but they did tell the fans in a Jujutsu Kaisen official fan book that if Itadori would not have been a Jujutsu sorcerer, he would have been a firefighter. Akutami didn’t give any reason for this, but this job would make perfect sense for him.
Yuji Itadori Would Have Been a Perfect Firefighter
Akutami may not have given the reason for making Itadori a firefighter, but this role fits perfectly for him looking at his personality as a character. Itadori checks all the boxes to be a firefighter. He is physically strong and can be a great helping hand. He loves to help people and wants to do good for the world in one way or the other. He can assess tough situations quickly and act accordingly with the best possible outcome. He does not lose his calm when facing a dangerous situation.
The job role fits perfectly for Itadori, which shows that Akutami must have given it a lot of thought. However, fans are delighted that Itadori became a Jujutsu Sorcerer and helped in the development of one of the greatest stories in anime history.
