Jujutsu Kaisen has numerous times proven to be a cinematic masterpiece. Gege Akutami has managed to captivate several viewers thanks to their dark fantasy narrative. The mangaka receives tons of applause for their in-depth work behind each JJK character, especially Gojo, who continues to win the hearts of many fans.
Gojo Satoru is recognized as the most powerful sorcerer in the Jujutsu Kaisen world and Gege never hesitated to highlight his immense strength. Unfortunately for Gojo fans, their beloved character met a tragic fate, losing his title as the strongest during the final showdown with Sukuna, the King of Curses. Interestingly, Gojo’s VA also supported Gege’s narrative of the character’s sad demise and believed it was an essential part of the story.
Gojo’s VA Supports Gege’s Well-Calculated Decision in Jujutsu Kaisen
Since the beginning, Gojo Satoru always held the spotlight in Jujutsu Kaisen as the strongest sorcerer. However, Gojo’s immense strength also hindered the progress of other characters, and for the sake of plot progression, Gege Akutami had to plan the character’s tragic fate. During the final showdown between Gojo and Sukana, the King of Curses emerges victorious, slashing Gojo in half.
Gojo Satoru has been a crowd favorite thanks to his comedy and cocky personality traits. Undoubtedly, many fans were left devastated by Gojo’s death despite being a fictional character. However, his demise was a well-calculated measure, as his presence was inhibiting Yuji’s progression. Gojo’s death was narrated as a stepping stone for Yuji’s character development.
After overcoming several challenges, Yuji Itadori has finally become the strongest sorcerer, arguably even surpassing the likes of Gojo and Yuta. Interestingly, Gojo’s VA also supported Gege’s narrative and highlighted the necessity of plot progression in JJK. In an interview, Kaiji Tang said:
Gojo’s not the main character of the story. I think he’s handled in such a way where all other characters are getting their chance to shine in an organic way. How do you have any stakes when you have a character this powerful in your story? Gege did what they could when writing Gojo, and they did it really well.
Kaji Tang is the English voice actor behind the most beloved Jujutsu Kaisen character, Gojo Satoru. The artist also expressed that he wouldn’t want to alter Gojo’s arc in any way. He added:
For me, I wouldn’t change Gojo’s arc. Narratively, Gojo has hit the beats that he needed to hit in the story.
Gojo’s tragic fate was the key factor behind Yuji’s progression in taking down Sukuna. Since the Gojo’s VA has also supported Gege’s narrative direction, it might be time for the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom to come to terms with the reality that their beloved character’s return is unlikely.
How Jujutsu Kaisen Avoids Naruto’s Nine-Tails Parallel
Jujutsu Kaisen has undoubtedly become one of the most popular new-gen anime, captivating several viewers worldwide. Interestingly, Gege had to be cautious to not draw any resemblance between Yuji and Sukuna’s relationship with Naruto and Nine Tails. Many new-gen animes such as Black Clover faced tons of backlash for the anime’s similarities to Naruto, which ultimately led to the series’ downfall.
Gege Akutami once opened up about their own insecurities while drawing Yuji and Yuta’s character. Moreover, Yuta’s further reconciliation with Rika made the mangaka more stressed about the similarities between the two. However, they were cautious that Yuji and Sukuna’s relationship didn’t mirror Naruto‘s bond with the Nine-Tails.
