George Clooney Bought His Lexus To Avoid Being In The Public Eye

George Clooney is among the celebrities of the world who is also obsessed with luxury cars. The Gravity star is a proud owner of some of the most stylish models that is the envy of many. One of the cars from his prized collection is the Lexus LS which Clooney bought with a very specific reason in mind. The Midnight Sky star wanted a vehicle that was not too prominent or flashy and one that easily blended with other cars on the road so that he could escape the paparazzi and avoid being recognized. The Lexus LS despite a lofty price of $70,000, suited his needs perfectly with its features. Clooney has reportedly done grocery shopping in this car without causing too much of a stir on the roads.

George Clooney is also a lover of vintage cars and owns a 1959 C1 Corvette. This car originally belonged to his father who had bought it to impress his wife, Clooney’s mother. The Ticket to Paradise actor later acquired it from his father as a gift and has been seen driving it around many times. Another special car that Clooney has, the Porsche 911 GT3, was gifted to him on his 54th birthday by his wife Amal Clooney.

George Clooney Almost Had A Nearly Fatal Bike Accident

George Clooney is also famously known to have a thrill for wild motorbike rides. One incident involving the actor riding a bike almost cost him his life. While filming the TV miniseries Catch 22 in Sardinia, Clooney was riding to the set on his Yamaha X-Max when an Italian plumber pulled up suddenly in front of him at 70mph resulting in a rather ugly crash. The plumber later claimed that the sun and the weather conditions deterred him from seeing vehicles in front of him. Clooney fortunately did not suffer serious injuries despite being hurt. He recalled the incident and said,

“I split my helmet in half. It knocked me out of my shoes. I was hit hard. I was just waiting for the switch to turn off because I broke his windshield with my head. And I thought, ‘OK, well, that’s my neck.”

After this near death experience, George Clooney decided to give up riding a motorbike for good and went on to develop his passion for cars further.
