One of the most seminal fantasy-adventure shows ever made, Game of Thrones has an unequivocal hold on fans across the globe. The HBO flagship – owing to its cosmic success – even spawned an equally glorious spinoff, if not more, in the form of House of the Dragon with more projects like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Aegon’s Conquest on the way.

And just like Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen remains incomplete without her staunch, fire-breathing Drogon, Game of Thrones too, would never be whole without the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea.

Emilia Clarke Tried to Sneak Into the Game of Thrones Set

You’d think that as Queen Daenerys Targaryen, Emilia Clarke would have the privilege of being privy to all the clandestine bits and pieces that unfold behind GoT‘s closed doors. But, as it turns out, the hallowed grounds where the bloodied familial wars of Westeros are filmed are (sometimes) off-limits to even the Mother of Dragons.

In honor of the last season of Game of Thrones (that feels like it was eons ago, right?), the English actress tried to give fans an “exclusive, behind-the-scenes” treat. The keyword being tried.

“Closed set,” Clarke smiled mischievously before proudly saying, “Not for me.” But in a hilarious twist of events, the door to the set turned out to be locked. “It’s okay, we’ll go around the back,” she said. While the Secret Invasion star did manage to open the door to the “top secret set,” it set off an alarm blaring enough to wake up someone comatose. Oops.

Okay, so let me level with you guys. The producers don’t really want me doing this. In fact, they don’t really know I’m doing this. They also don’t know, I swiped the key [to the set]. So, um, yeah, c’mon. Let’s go in. [Alarm rings] Okay go, go, go, go! Run, run, run […] We gotta go […] George R. R. Martin is like on his way. Run!

Later, Clarke is seen entreating one of the producers to let her inside the set, but in vain, ultimately ending up in a green room; the most she could offer viewers was a blurred version of the script of Game of Thrones season 8 from her trailer with a bleeped-out line or two.

Well, she certainly deserves an A+ for the effort though.

Emilia Clarke Feared Being Fired From Game of Thrones

Despite being impeccably enchanting at her job, there was a time when Clarke, 37, was scared of losing her GoT gig.

In a recent interview with Big Issue, the Terminator Genisys confessed that she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to reprise her role as Daenerys Targaryen on the show after enduring two brain aneurysms. Her first injury was when she was still filming the first two seasons back in 2011 and the second time it happened was a couple of years later. Fortunately enough, Clarke recuperated well after her surgery both times (via Variety).

When you have a brain injury, because it alters your sense of self on such a dramatic level, all of the insecurities you have going into the workplace quadruple overnight. The first fear we all had was: ‘Oh my God, am I going to get fired? Am I going to get fired because they think I’m not capable of completing the job?’

Then there was the dreadful terror of suffering from such an incident on the Game of Thrones set. But of course, Clarke being the fearless Queen that she is, took her consternation in stride. “Well, if I’m going to die, I better die on live TV,” she stated.

Game of Thrones can be streamed on Max.
