Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin has always been proud of his works, but to see them take shape in the form of real visuals is something that he still finds hard to fathom. However with House of the Dragon, the prequel to the HBO show, the author claimed to have an otherworldly experience.
Receiving a decent cut of the pilot episode of House of the Dragon from showrunner Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal, George R.R. Martin simply lost words of expression. Fumbling for praises, the author sent a cryptic message via text filled with several exclamation points.
House of the Dragon Pilot Stunned George R.R. Martin
Following the grand success of Game of Thrones, creators rushed in to get their hands on the prequel story to the HBO hit. Later on, showrunners Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal were presented with the responsibility of the series. Initially, most fans had doubts about the execution of the show, but in the end, they were all stunned by the grandeur of House of the Dragon.
Even George R.R. Martin was unsure about how his books might get adapted this time. But the author was relieved of his doubts after he was sent a decent cut of the pilot episode of House of the Dragon by Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunners wanted Martin’s opinion first.
“George is not an effusive guy. But he loved the pilot so much that Miguel and I both got text messages with more exclamation points than I’ve ever seen in one place from that man.”
Witnessing the first episode of House of the Dragon, George R.R. Martin simply lost his mind. Stunned by the work and the flawless execution of his work on screen, the author sent a cryptic text to the showrunners.
George R.R. Martin Appreciated the Showrunners’ Work
Watching the pilot episode via a private link, George R.R. Martin got so hooked on the show that he viewed nine of the ten episodes in various stages. And with each episode, his excitement only grew stronger than ever. Appreciating Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal’s work, the author even struggled to find perfect words of appreciation.
“It’s powerful, it’s visceral, it’s dark, it’s like a Shakespearean tragedy. There’s no Arya — a character everybody’s going to love. They’re all flawed. They’re all human. They do good things. They do bad things. They’re driven by lust for power, jealousy, old wounds — just like human beings. Just like I wrote them.”
Further, he expressed his excitement for the show on his blog after the series was listed by IMDb as the most anticipated new TV show for 2022. “I have got to confess, I was chuffed to read that the most anticipated new show, according to IMDB, was… (drum roll, please) HOUSE OF THE DRAGON!” he began. Later on, Martin openly praised the showrunners and confessed to watching the pilot episode.
“I am anticipating HOUSE OF THE DRAGON pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book). Also, I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it…Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job.”
Expressing his excitement for the show via his blog, George R.R. Martin even pumped up his audiences. And now, no one can deny House of the Dragon is certainly one hell of a show.
