Samuel L. Jackson is all set to reprise his role as Nick Fury in Marvel’s upcoming series Secret Invasion. And while Jackson is extremely excited to make his proper comeback in the franchise after quite a few years, there are more reasons for him to celebrate.

One of them is obviously that the series is expected to center around this very interesting and yet mysterious former S.H.I.E.L.D. director.

However, another one is that making history Samuel L. Jackson recently joined a very exclusive club of Marvel artists who had the fortune to be credited as the executive producer for their own solo projects.

As such, this is turning out to be a good year for the Pulp Fiction actor, and seems excited about watching his efforts come to fruition when the series airs.

Interestingly, though, this is something that sort of sets the legend apart, as many of his industry colleagues can not stand to watch their own movies. And Samuel L. Jackson has something to say about that.

Samuel L. Jackson wants actors like Emma Stone and Johnny Depp to leave the industry

There have been a lot of actors who have claimed that they cannot bear watching their own movies. While there are some who had trouble watching themselves on the screen from the start, for others a specific project made them swear to never watch their movies again.

The reason behind this, though, turns out to be pretty similar for all of them as they claim they would turn harshly critical of themselves which would lead to a spiral anytime they had to experience that.

While the list is full of actors of all calibers, two of the most notable names on the list happen to be Johnny Depp and Emma Stone. For example, in the case of Depp, he admitted he has never watched his movies because it feels like looking back on the past for him.

When he finishes the filming, he lets go of that particular project wholeheartedly ready to move on. Because watching the final product always makes him insecure about his performance, his work is always more about him experiencing the process.

One interesting incident happened during the screening of his Oscar-nominated movie Pirates of the Caribbean when he ran out of the theater completely not being able to go through with it.

Similarly, in the case of Emma Stone, the Oscar winner might not experience a reaction as severe as Depp, but she surely does not appreciate it.

Claiming how she has never watched one of her most iconic movies, Easy A, The Amazing Spider-Man star revealed that she went to a friend and family screening for her movies but had to walk out because she couldn’t bear it.

Her reason was simple, “Who wants to watch themselves for that long?” However, the Marvel actor, Samuel L. Jackson seems to be of a different mind as he finds these claims ridiculous. Talking in an interview about this topic he stated,

“People talk about, ‘I can’t stand to watch myself on screen.’ Well, get another job! You expect people to pay $12 or $15 to go and see you, and you don’t want to see it? I don’t think so.”

Admittedly, he has never had any problems watching himself on the big screen and he doesn’t think others should either. To him, it seems almost disrespectful to the audience and the craft both.

Samuel L. Jackson enjoys watching himself on screen

As mentioned, Samuel L. Jackson absolutely loves watching himself on screen ever since his New York theater days. The reason behind this seems simple to him. He explained,

“I want to leave the theater going, ‘That was awesome! That was great! Ahh!’ That’s why people go to the movies, and I want to be part of that.”

As a result, he even goes back to watch the movies of his younger days as he claimed when asked about whether he felt weird watching his digitally de-aged self in Captain America in an interview before. He noted,

“I watch my old movies all the time, so no. If I’m channel-surfing and there’s something old of mine on that I like, I watch it. So I see that face.”

And so this was a perfect opportunity for him according to Samuel L. Jackson himself. An actor who enjoys and has fun not only performing but also watching his performances will have such extreme excitement about his upcoming high-intensity Marvel series is a no-brainer. Thankfully, his fans, too, are waiting with bated breath for the adventure to begin next month.

Secret Invasion arrives on Disney+ on June 21st, 2023.
