In the world of gaming, the unexpected often happens. This time, it’s the triumph of Ghost of Tsushima over Helldivers 2, despite a wave of criticism and attempted boycotts due to Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirements.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut was initially a PlayStation-exclusive but its recent launch on the PC platform via Steam and the Epic Store has been met with great enthusiasm from players. The game has even managed to clinch the top spot on Steam’s bestseller list beating games like Helldivers 2.

Surprisingly, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut not only outperformed Helldivers 2 but also dominated the Steam Chart for a period of time. The game was one of the most anticipated titles to arrive on PC, ever since its initial launch as a PlayStation exclusive in 2020.
The success of Ghost of Tsushima comes as a surprise, especially considering the recent controversy surrounding PSN requirements. The saving grace for the game and the players was that the requirement for PSN accounts was exclusive to the multiplayer mode called Ghost of Tsushima Legends.
Ghost of Tsushima’s Triumph over Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 was the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the beloved cooperative shooter, which received love from gamers far and wide. Yet, it found itself stuck in controversy, sparking boycotts and a wave of criticism.
The controversy started a few months after launch when it was made mandatory to link Steam and PlayStation accounts to continue playing Helldivers 2. After facing backlash from players, Sony reverted the decision and players took a sigh of relief.
In contrast to the controversy surrounding Helldivers 2, Sony clarified before the launch of Ghost of Tsushima on PC that a PSN account is mandatory only for those wishing to engage in cooperative play of Ghost of Tsushima. The clarification helped a lot of players make their decisions and also cleared their doubts about the game’s requirements.
