Hadid and McCarthy appeared in court last July 12, pleading guilty to the charges and paying a fine of $1,000 each. Insiders claimed that the scandal wrecked her image, especially in the eyes of the public and the family-friendly brands she has collaborated with.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid Arrested For Possessing Marijuana During Vacation

In a statement given to Entertainment Weekly, the supermodel’s representatives confirmed that the drugs were purchased “legally in NYC with a Medical license.” They also said:

It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear, and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”

The 28-year-old runway model, who has been linked with actor Leonardo DiCaprio, took a private plane to the British Overseas Territory for a fun girl’s getaway. Shortly after arriving at the Owen Roberts International Airport, they were apprehended. According to the local outlet Cayman Marl Road:

Ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja were found in the luggage of both passengers. The quantities were relatively small and were seemingly for personal consumption. CMR confirmed the amount in question was 15.39g.”

The model and her friend still managed to enjoy their vacation despite the controversy. They stayed at Palm Heights and left the Cayman Islands on the 15th. Insiders from In Touch Weekly said that Hadid’s Instagram post with the caption “All’s well that ends well” is only a fragment of the whole story. They claimed:

Gigi was unnerved by the experience. It doesn’t look good for her image.”

According to the local Cayman outlet, Cannabis is illegal in the area, but only CDB oil is allowed under medical prescription. While Hadid reasoned out that the marijuana was purchased for medical intentions, officials noted that her card is invalid in the Cayman Islands.

Similarly, Gigi’s sister and fellow model, Bella Hadid, has checked herself into rehab for the fourth time. An insider shared (via In Touch Weekly):

Bella says that treatment has done a great deal to help her. She often becomes overwhelmed by her fame and the nature of the business and finds that treatment facilities give her respite.”

The runway model is open about her struggle with alcohol addiction, as well as her sobriety journey. On the other hand, Gigi was presumably struggling with an autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto’s disease, and the drugs she brought during her trip were supposed to help her deal with it.

While both are successful in their chosen careers, it seems that Bella and Gigi Hadid are struggling with fame and pressure from society. Hopefully, both girls will no longer find themselves in any drug-related troubles in the future.
