If you would ask the makers of Star Wars about a conflict in a galaxy far, far away, they won’t flinch at the prospect. But Gina Carano has dragged the people associated with the franchise into a conflict that will be tried in a court, not really far, far away. At a time that is not really far, far away (the trial is tentatively set to be conducted on 25 September, 2025). And the former MMA fighter is going to leave no stone unturned to get her rights, putting some big names at risk of getting caught in the crossfire.

Why Gina Carano had to bite the bullet?

Gina Carano essayed the role of Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. The series revolves around the adventures of the titular bounty hunter, who is played by Pedro Pascal. While the series made some waves early on for the right reasons (who can forget the time Baby Yoda took over the Internet?!), it didn’t long for things to go wrong.

The 42-year-old would lose her role in the series in the aftermath of making numerous social media posts, which saw her not only take a stance against the use of Covid-19 vaccines during the pandemic, but also spread some right-wing opinions online. The chain of posts resulted in her being fired in February 2021.

Little did Disney know that they would have to lawyer up real soon. Gina Carano decided to take Disney to court for firing her. Her grounds? Gender discrimination on the part of Disney. While putting her stance before US District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett, she raised the point that male actors who had a similar history of making controversial posts didn’t meet the same end as she did.

Leading this line is none other than the protagonist, Pedro Pascal. Carano alleged that the Kingsman: The Golden Circle star had made a sleuth of politically motivated posts. One such post compared the United States’ response to illegal immigrants to Nazi concentration camps. Another drew a comparison between Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler. It is her contention that if the Game of Thrones star was not terminated, then she shouldn’t have been either.

Pedro Pascal might find himself tangled in Gina Carano’s lawsuit

With District Judge Garnett setting aside Disney’s contention that the lawsuit was barred by the First Amendment, there is no denying the fact that Pedro Pascal will find himself in Court real soon. He will be joined by Bear Grylls, Kathleen Kennedy, Lynne Hale, and possibly even Jon Favreau. And they know that Gina Carano won’t be going down easy.

And it won’t come as a shock to anyone. Losing out on a role in the Star Wars franchise is easily a loss of a million dollars. To put this into context, every Star Wars star is on a six-year contract, which ranges from $150,000 to $250,000 per episode, be it a regular series or a spin-off. And apart from the regular series, the Deadpool star lost out on a possible role in Rangers of the New Republic, meaning another huge loss.

No wonder she is willing to go the distance to press her rights.
