One of the bankable stars of the decade, Euphoria‘s fame Zendaya has continued to work on some great films including the Spider-man trilogy. The 25-year-old has also been part of some controversy for supporting some decisions made by the show Euphoria in portraying drug addiction.

The sensation hit Euphoria stars, Zendaya, as Rue, a high school student who suffers from drug addiction. In response to the portrayal of drug abuse on the show, the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) called it misguided and erroneous.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zendaya responded to the criticism :

“Our show is in no way a moral tale to teach people how to live their life or what they should be doing. If anything, the feeling behind ‘Euphoria,’ or whatever we have always been trying to do with it, is to hopefully help people feel a little bit less alone in their experience and their pain….”

Euphoria breaks numerous Emmy records

While also starring in the show, Zendaya has also gone on to become the executive producer on the show Euphoria. While describing the direction she wanted to take the show in, she stated that the series will display drug use, to fully reflect modern-day challenges for teens.

She won an Emmy in 2020 for leading actress in a drama, making her the youngest actor and second black woman to do so. Breaking another record, the Dune star also became the youngest woman ever nominated for producing at the Emmys.

In addition to her other nominations, she also was also mentioned in the original music and lyrics category for her songs Elliot’s Song and I’m Tired. So she has become the first black woman to be nominated for acting and songwriting at the same time at the Emmys.

Euphoria – Where to watch and when is the next season coming?

The show follows the tumultuous journey of a group of high school students as it tackles topics taboo to our society, but relevant to the younger generation. Such topics include drugs, sex, and violence.
