'God of Cinema teams up with Kings of Acting': Marvel Stars Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac Reportedly Starring in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein Movie

After his take on the popular kids’ story Pinocchio, the Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro is now ready to work on Victor Frankenstein’s story. The story follows a young scientist who creates a sapient creature through his unorthodox scientific experiment. The book, released in 1818, inspired a horror genre for TV shows, films, and plays. And followed by several inspired projects, del Toro is also working on his version of popular horror fiction.

Andrew Garfield Rumored to Feature in Guillermo del Toro’s Next Project

Guillermo del Toro spent years working on his passion project, Pinocchio. The film was finally released on Netflix in December last year. He delivered a hit again, making the stop-motion animation film one of the most successful films of his career. And now the Oscar-winning director is set to work on his Frankenstein adaptation.

The Pacific Rim director told Variety Awards podcast last year that he has been working on a “monster movie.” While he did say that he has been working on the film for the past few years, he also mentioned that nothing is confirmed yet.

Netflix has also been reportedly planning a Frankenstein film, and the Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac is expected to feature as Victor Frankenstein in the film. The new update has revealed that the director has reportedly cast The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield for his next project.

According to Giant Freaking Robot’s sources, Garfield is expected to join Issac as Frankenstein’s monster in del Toro’s adaptation. This would be another project under del Toro’s deal with Netflix, which he signed in August 2020. Pinocchio and Cabinet of Curiosities have been Guillermo del Toro’s major projects under his deal with Netflix.

It is unclear if the director plans to adapt the story directly from the original book, but people do seem excited to see Garfield, Issac, and del Toro working on a film. Fans have deemed it the “best thing” for the film. The filming would reportedly start in June this year.

Guillermo del Toro Always Wanted to Work on Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro has described Frankenstein as one of his favorite films and has said that he has “been dreaming of doing a Frankenstein movie since [he] was a child.” He has also described his obsession with the story as “unhealthy,” saying that it has been one of the most important books of his life.

He also said that if he gets the opportunity to work on a Frankenstein film he would do it the right way. However, as the Nightmare Alley director also has a list of films that never saw the light of day, many fear the same for his Frankenstein adaptation as well. But things seem hopeful for the Frankenstein adaptation as the director is reportedly working with Netflix on this project.

Whether Andrew Garfield’s casting rumor is true or not, the production of the film is expected to start in June this year. There are no updates regarding the release date of the film yet.
