God of War fans have yet to sleep peacefully without knowing what the future God of Mischief could have seen through the rift with Odin’s wooden mask. Not much is known about the relic except for the All-Father’s claim that the mask is the only thing a person could wear for protection while peeking through the rift.
In the climactic battle at the end of the Norse Saga, Loki destroyed the mask and forever sealed the knowledge behind the rift. Some fans wonder what could have been seen beyond the rift and how it would affect the franchise’s foreseeable future.
Some God of War Fans Still Can’t Shake the Feeling of a What If Scenario in the Norse Saga
The developers over at Santa Monica Studio spent years working on expanding the franchise beyond the Greek Saga. The gaming community was blown away when the Ghost of Sparta traveled to a foreign land to start anew but was caught up in the middle of the conflict in the Nine Realms that he later resolved with his son who could be the new lead of the God of War series.
The Norse Saga ended on a positive note where the main protagonists escaped unscathed and are free to write their prophecies on their terms and to pursue their dreams and aspirations. Odin sought the aid of Atreus in his pursuit of unlimited knowledge and entrusted him with pieces of a wooden mask that could be the key to their ultimate goal.

Fans are as upset as the All-Father when the mask they spent hours trying to fix by traveling to distant realms and collecting each piece was destroyed. It was for the best to prevent Odin from gaining more power and knowledge, however, some fans are still curious about what they could have seen.

Some fans believe it could see events from the future that could cause another interesting twist regarding the time travel aspect of the franchise. Perhaps the developers have yet to come up with a solid roadmap for the future and left it up to the imagination of the gaming community for now.

Others believe it would give Odin what he wanted, a life beyond godhood. Primordial beings are much more powerful than any god from any pantheon and could destroy everything beyond the Nine Realms.
Perhaps the rift is an antithesis to Pandora’s Box and could be a vacuum for all hope. Kratos stepped up for the people of the Nine Realms by accepting Freya’s offer to succeed Tyr as the new Norse God of War and use his godhood for the good of all.
God of War Ragnarok Could Have Set the Precedent for Future Sequels and Spinoff Projects
There is no telling what lies beyond the rift other than the power to control the Nine Realms. Odin is a paranoid and conniving god and would not hesitate to manipulate others for his gain and to kill in cold blood to get what he wants.
Perhaps the gaming community could have seen a glimpse of the franchise’s future and where the developers will take the Ghost of Sparta next. Some fans expect the developers to make smaller spinoff projects centered on other characters in the Norse Saga to expand the lore.
Curiosity can kill and Odin lost an eye in his lust for power and knowledge, there is no telling what Atreus could have lost if he had the same taste for greed as the All-Father.
Kratos is not a fan of shortcuts and relics that possess power given his history and it would be wise to follow through. Only time will tell how the developers will address this in the future.
