God of War is one of the greatest first-party franchises of the PlayStation platform and the gaming community is like hawks finding secrets that could have major implications. The first part of the Norse Saga ended with more questions than answers and fans think this one theory has some bearing.

The Aesir gods are nothing like Kratos and Atreus, these two gods came from a problematic family. Odin treats his kin like foot soldiers and sends them to fight in a war that means nothing to them and they will do anything to please the All-Father and gain his favor.

Santa Monica Studio did not hold back working on the Norse Saga and emphasized how little family means to these omnipotent beings with great power. The Aesir may not be as powerful as the Greek gods but can pack a serious punch and fans believe if Heimdall were to overcome his cockiness, he would be an even match for Kratos in God of War Ragnarok.

Tensions were high in the sequel which opened with a house call from the Thunder God and All-Father who offered Kratos a deal that he refused. Thor gave the retired god a decent beating and had a score to settle after killing Magni and Modi. During the fight, Thor revived Kratos since he had yet to pay his blood payment.

Kratos killed Magni in self-defense and allowed Modi to flee and return to Asgard where players learned Thor beat him for losing his brother. Fans believe Odin changed his form and punished him rather than Thor doing it himself.

It is not impossible since Odin viewed his family as henchmen, Thor and his sons are his enforcers, Heimdall is his most loyal ally and Baldur is his tracker and does not care for his loss and is more upset about his irreplaceable value and his invulnerability curse. Odin manipulated him and gave false promises that fueled his motivation to serve him.

Odin had no problems killing his family and even shared with the Nine Realms that he murdered Tyr, his son and the Norse God of War, and took his form for ulterior motives. He then later killed Thor the moment he stood against him and felt no remorse, how much more for his grandchildren.

There is a strong likelihood that Odin beat Modi upon his return to Asgard to express his disappointment. Modi then confronted the father-son duo in a weakened state allowing Atreus to kill him adding another casualty to a war they know nothing of.

Kratos did not want to fight but defended himself while Magni and Modi had no other choice but to either die at the hands of Kratos or their grandfather. Thor’s children hold the All-Father in high regard and are blinded by his twisted intentions for the Nine Realms and treat them as pawns.

The fates of Thor and his family are a cautionary tale of where the thirst for power will take a god. Odin sacrificed everything and failed spectacularly.
