The concept of monsters fighting other monsters has been around since the very first Godzilla film back in the 50s. The concept took off and became a major franchise, spanning decades across various mediums. Godzilla Minus One made a mark after its release last year and now the team for the movie has had a wonderful reaction to the Oscar nomination.
Godzilla Minus One was the latest Toho monster movie, directed by Takashi Yamazaki. The movie brought the iconic King of the Monsters back to the forefront as the main antagonist, who terrorizes Japan after World War II. Godzilla Minus One‘s Team Had An Epic Reaction To Getting An Oscar Nomination
Godzilla Minus One was already a massive hit when it released last year and is viewed as one of the best films related to the iconic kaiju, of all time. For the first time in its 70-year history, Godzilla can claim to be an Academy Award nominee.
The critically acclaimed Godzilla Minus One received a nomination in the Best Visual Effects category for the 2024 Oscars. The listed nominees for the film are Takashi Yamakazi, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi, and Tatsuji Nojima. The film will compete against tough competition in the category, including The Creator, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Napoleon, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
As revealed by a clip making rounds online, the whole team watched to see if they would get a nomination. Obviously, there was a lot of anticipation for them as a whole as they worked very hard on the film.

When they did realize they got the nomination, they went crazy and celebrated with all kinds of confetti and screams galore. It was truly a wholesome moment and one of vindication for them.

Godzilla Minus One Broke US Box Office Records Last Year
The film debuted in Japan on November 3, 2023, celebrating the franchise’s 70th anniversary, and released in US theaters on December 1st. There was a ton of hype for the movie and unsurprisingly, the film did quite well at the Box Office.
According to Deadline, Godzilla Minus One has opened at the domestic box office with $11 million. This sets the new record for 2023’s largest opening for a foreign movie, as it beat Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba‘s gross of $10.1 million. The film ended the year with the biggest opening and that was a major accomplishment.
Godzilla Minus One is truly a phenomenon in the world of kaiju movies and fans have been flocking to theaters to watch it as many times as possible, due to its limited release. Only time will tell whether its success will mean the movie will make its way to other markets, especially considering it just got an Oscar nod to boot.
