Satoru Gojo had always been a big help to his students. He helped Yuta Okkotsu, Megumi Fushiguro, and Yuji Itadori, among others, to establish themselves as Jujutsu sorcerers. He was blessed to receive two of the most powerful abilities of the Gojo clan – Limitless and Six Eyes. Even though his students appeared to get annoyed with him, they nonetheless always loved him.

But all this would never happen if Suguru Geto was not present. Suguru Geto was his best and one and only friend. After Riko Amanai’s death, Satoru was ready to abandon the jujutsu world, but it was Suguru who did not let him deviate from his path. If Suguru Geto had been absent, it would have been the start of the villain arc for Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen.

The Hidden Inventory arc saw Toji Fushiguro getting hired by the Star Religious Group to assassinate Riko Amanai. The Star Religious Group were devotees of Tengen. They were not ready for the merger since they believed in the pure form of master Tengen. While Suguru Geto and Satoru Gojo were escorting Riko Amanai to Tengen, Toji Fushiguro ambushed them and killed Riko Amanai.

While returning, the devotees were clapping at her dead body to showcase their joy over the merger not happening. Suguru entered the scene only to find that Satoru’s eyes had changed. Then he asked him whether he should kill all the devotees.

Suguru sighed and answered there was no point in doing that and told Gojo to vacate the organization. If Suguru Geto had said the opposite, Satoru Gojo would have wreaked havoc, and it would be the origin of his villain story. Geto played an important role in his staying on the good path. Satoru was ready to be the main antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, but Suguru Geto prevented it.

So, Satoru Gojo asked for his council on whether he should kill the devotees of the Star Religious Group. The incident completely changed both of them. Satoru lost his arrogance, and Suguru started to hate the non-sorcerers. As fate would have it, one of them had to become the villain. So, Suguru Geto helped his best friend at the cost of becoming the villain.
