Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most popular anime and manga series that is currently ongoing, and it is known for its exhilarating combat, engaging characters, and comedy. Created by Gege Akutami, the series follows the adventures of Yuji Itadori who joins a school of Jujutsu Sorcerers who aim to defeat powerful curses, the most powerful of whom Yuji has become the host of. His teacher is Satoru Gojo, the world’s most powerful sorcerer.
The series’ anime is currently airing its second season and has reached the storyline known as the Shibuya Incident Arc, while the manga is of course far ahead of the anime. Mangaka Gege Akutami always shares his thoughts at the end of each episode of Jujutsu Kaisen, and he says something surprising about Gojo at the end of the latest episode.
What did Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami say about Gojo?
The latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen (the ninth of the second season) was a Gojo-centric one, where he fights several curses and enemies. At the end of the episode, Akutami thanked the animators as always and then said (via Dexerto):
“Thanks for Season 2, Episode 9. Gojo was way cooler and scarier than in the manga!! The timing when Jogo came out of the smoke and his arm regrew was so badass I actually laughed. And the lip-syncing was perfect. I got so hyped!”

It’s not every day that Akutami says something positive about Satoru Gojo, as he is well known amongst the fan base for not liking the character, something he has in common with most other characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. He’s also been known to make light of the situation whenever something happened to him in the manga, so it’s strange that he’s praising Gojo this time, especially in light of what he had called him earlier.
What had Gege Akutami called Gojo earlier?
At the end of the fifth episode of the second season, which also concluded the flashback arc to Gojo’s days as a student, Akutami began by thanking the anime staff of Jujutsu Kaisen. He then spoke on the high level of attention to detail, before expressing excitement for the then-upcoming Shibuya Incident arc. He is also happy with the new art style and has complimented the anime staff for the same before too.

After all this, though, he said that Gojo is a mob character who received the top-tier animation treatment. In anime and manga, a mob character is someone who is drawn or depicted only to fill in the background, and they are easy for viewers or readers to miss. They don’t play an important role in the story either.
Of course, Gojo isn’t actually a mob character by any means, and Akutami was likely insulting Gojo or simply making a joke. Nevertheless, his comments after the ninth episode of season 2 in the section above could be interpreted as him regretting his previous statements expressing hatred for Satoru Gojo.
