Known for their strength, violence, and pride, the Saiyans are probably the strongest race in the Dragon Ball universe. Their ability to increase their power and go berserk in times of crisis makes them adaptive and fierce to the strongest of attacks. Additionally, until a few years ago, it was believed that the Saiyans did not have many weaknesses in battle.

But all this changed when Dragon Ball Super: Broly came out. Broly was the epitome of the Saiyan race, and he was deemed a Legendary Super Saiyan who appeared every one thousand years. However, even the Legendary Super Saiyan was shown to be weak against electric shocks given to him by his father Paragus.

This led to fans believing that maybe the Saiyan race has some kind of vulnerability to electricity or electric shocks. But according to a Reddit post, the Saiyans, especially Goku, have encountered electric shocks in the past, and they seem to walk out of it alive, which moots the theory about Saiyan’s weakness.

The Invincible Broly Was Vulnerable To Electricity

When Broly was sent to Vampa by King Vegeta, his father Paragus decided to save his son and train him to take revenge against the Saiyan race for discarding him. However, as Paragus spent more time with Broly, he understood that he needed to find a way to control Broly whenever he went out of control.

Thus he created a shock collar that was tied around Broly’s neck, and whenever Paragus felt like Broly needed to be controlled, he would shock Broly with a huge voltage of current, which would cause damage to the legendary Saiyan. The electric shock was so powerful that it would force Broly out of his berserk state and sometimes even injure him.

This led to fans believing that if someone as legendary as Broly is affected by electric shock, then it must be a weakness within the entire Saiyan race. It gained a lot of traction within the Dragon Ball fanbase, and some even believed it to be real because the movie was canon to the original Dragon Ball Super storyline.

Past Dragon Ball Events Prove Fans Were Wrong About Saiyan’s Weakness

According to u/farmer_with_shotgun on Reddit, the assumption about Saiyans being susceptible to electricity is far from the truth.

There have been events in the previous Dragon Ball narratives where Goku and other Saiyans have been attacked with electric attacks and they only got a couple of scratches.

The best example of this comes from the very first Dragon Ball series, where Master Roshi, the teacher of Goku and Krillin, uses an attack called “Bankoku Bikkuri-Sho” on Goku. This attack converts the entire energy of the body into 20,000 volts of electricity, and although it did decent damage to Goku, he survived the attack.

There have been other such instances where electric shock or electricity might have dealt some damage to Saiyans, but it never knocked them out cold or affected their thinking as it did with Broly. Thus, the strongest race in the Dragon Ball Universe retains its title by defeating the wrongful assumptions about them.
