The dashing Henry Cavill was a treat to watch playing Superman on the silver screen in Man of Steel which was released worldwide in June 2013. An enthusiastic gamer himself, Cavill during a past interview spilled the tea on a lot of things including his love for games.
Playing Superman is no small deal. Cavill explains how in spite of a great screen test, he thought he’d messed up his audition for being overweight.
Henry Cavill loved Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
During interview with GQ, the British actor also expressed his love for video games. Cavill says that his love for games stems from his dad, who got all his brothers into computers while they were young. He shares how they had five PCs lined up side-by-side on the dining room table, wherein they would all play network games together.
Even today he reveals he enjoys shooting up a group email out to his brothers and spending an evening playing computer games online with them. However he adds,
“But I haven’t played them in a while. They’ve been busy. So I’ve been playing a lot of the single player games, like Skyrim. Goodness me, that’s a great game.”
Notably, when The Witcher actor was called by Zack Snyder to offer him the role of Superman in Man of Steel, he was actually in the middle of a gaming session. He was playing the online fantasy role-play game World Of Warcraft.
He says,
“And I saw it was him [calling], but the thing is, you can’t save World Of Warcraft, you can’t pause it. It’s live.”
He was so engrossed in playing the game that he missed the director’s call. He later called Snyder back only to discover he’d got the part. Talking of the incident, Snyder says,
“Haha, that’s awesome! So, he was like, ‘Who the f*** is this bothering me? I’m playing World Of Warcraft!’ That’s great. Oh, he’s a nerd. That’s why we get on so well.”
Man of Steel released in 2013 was a great hit among the fans. The movie and especially Cavill’s role was highly appreciated. Besides, Cavill also received a lot of praise for dramatically getting into shape to fit into the Superman suit within a relatively short span.
Could Henry Cavill feature in a gaming-based movie
Given that Cavill revealed his love for video games and also revealed his favorite game, it won’t be surprising to see him feature in a gaming-based movie.
He was previously featured in 2018’s Netflix TV adaptation of The Witcher of the same name. Cavill was selected from more than 200 actors to play the role of Geralt of Rivia. He had shared that he actively campaigned for the role, since he was a long-time fan of the video game adaptations
It won’t be surprising to see Cavell feature in an Elder Scroll V: Skyrim movie too if at all it is made in the near future.
