The spooky season is here and horror fans are in for a treat as Epic Games Store is giving away a popular horror game for free ahead of Halloween next week. The survival horror game The Evil Within from developer Tango Gameworks and Resident Evil series co-creator Shinji Mikami is now available to grab for free.
The Evil Within has its flaws, but has been loved for its terrifying experiences with elements of stealth and survival and is surely one of the most popular horror games that players should play.
Epic Games Store Is Giving Away a Popular Horror Game for Free
The Evil Within was released in 2014 and was published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is free on Epic Games Store from October 19 and is available till October 26 for players to own it permanently. The Evil Within is directed by Resident Evil co-creator Shinji Mikami, the creator behind some of the best delights in the genre, and follows Sebastian Castellanos, a police detective who is investigating a murder.
The Evil Within sees Sebastian go on a journey to unravel the mystery behind a murder and find out who is responsible for this. Sebastian finds himself delving into a deranged world away from reality full of dangerous creatures. The game features scary cutscenes and survival horror and players must overcome against dangerous and supernatural creatures.
Even though The Evil Within is not Mikami’s best work, for players who love a horror game and given that it is free, there might not be a better time to try the game. The game is full of gory violence and with chainsaw-wielding butchers chasing players at every other step, The Evil Within is not for the faint-hearted.
The game received positive reviews upon launch, praising its terrifying atmosphere, action, and puzzle gameplay. Although some parts of the story do not quite hold up, the game is still worth checking out. It is also available on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra for consoles.
The developers have addressed the flaws with updates and also added a couple of new features such as first-person mode, field-of-view options, and more.
The Sequel Will Follow the Popular Horror Game Next Week
Epic Games Store has also announced that The Evil Within 2, the sequel to the popular horror game The Evil Within will be the next free game on the store available to get from October 26 until November 2. The Evil Within 2 follows Sebastian Castellanos as he tries to rescue his daughter from a town filled with dangerous and mutated people.
The Evil Within 2 has been praised for the blend of horror and thrill enhanced by the story progression as players find several layers of reality and experience. The game did better than its predecessor in almost every aspect; the sound and music are wonderful, the combat mechanics are better, and the creatures are much more terrifying.
The side missions give depth to the game while carrying the same essence of the first game and although The Evil Within 2 is not as difficult as the previous game, the nightmare difficulty does the trick. One of the most important elements that captivate players is the story and the protagonist itself.
The story in The Evil Within 2 is full of emotions and makes players feel connected to Sebastian as he continues his journey in pursuit of his beloved daughter. Other than that, players have the opportunity to get story-driven indie puzzle game Eternal Threads with The Evil Within and puzzle-platformer Tandem: A Tale of Shadows with The Evil Within 2 next week.
Overall, horror-loving players are set to have an amazing Halloween with the popular horror game on offer and for those looking for something different, Epic Games Store has that sorted too with two above-mentioned freebies.
