“Great game-play trailer koming soon with more MAIN & KAMEO fighter reveals”: Ed Boon Teases New Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Trailer

Featured Video

Over recent weeks the marketing push for Mortal Kombat 1 has really hit its stride, with news and leaks dropping left, right and centre, much of which is thanks to Ed Boon, franchise creator. Most recently the game had a stress-test last weekend, and while it was primarily to test the capabilities of the networking and identify any bugs that only competitive play could identify, it also meant the internet was awash with new Mortal Kombat 1 content.

Some of the gameplay shown off by those involved in the stress-test showcased the increased speed of combat, compared to that of previous entries in the franchise, the new Kameo system and even the return of the infamous ‘Quitality’ system. Now, franchise creator Ed Boon is promising a new gameplay trailer, this time focusing on more reveals of the actual roster of characters!

Announced on Twitter earlier today, it looks like fans won’t have much longer to find out more of the roster of the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1. With the previous game’s roster being so good, there’s a lot for Mortal Kombat 1 to live up to, and the new in-universe timeline does allow for some considerable creativity, but we’ve yet to see any surprising inclusions, or at least, confirmed ones.

So far, thanks to the two trailers and the stress-test weekend, we have some confirmed roster characters and Kameos.

Main Characters

  • Johnny Cage
  • Kenshi
  • Kitana
  • Kung Lao
  • Liu Kang
  • Mileena
  • Raiden
  • Scorpion
  • Shang Tsung – Pre-order exclusive
  • Sub-Zero

Kameos

  • Goro
  • Jax Briggs
  • Kano
  • Kung Lao
  • Scorpion
  • Sub-Zero
  • Sonya Blade
  • Stryker

Anyone that has played any of the previous games in the franchise will know there is a considerable amount more yet to be confirmed, especially with the new Kameo gameplay mechanic, which looks set to use characters not primarily playable. In essence, this could be seen as two separate rosters, allowing for a greater variety of characters and gameplay with it.

There has already been a leak regarding the rest of the roster from the reputable Mortal Kombat leaker r00000r, so it won’t be too much longer until we find out how correct they actually are.

Between now and its release date there is still plenty of ground for the marketing team to cover, with next-to-nothing known about the game’s story, which has left many scratching their heads with the ending of Mortal Kombat 11, as well as what other gameplay modes we can expect. Franchise staples like the Crypt and the Tower modes are almost certain, but Ed Boon has teased many times over recent months how he’d like to make a return to the open-world nature of Mortal Kombat games. Was he being serious or just messing with fans?
