Rocksteady Studios and Insomniac Games did the unthinkable and delivered top-notch Batman and Spider-Man superhero titles when it was considered impossible for developers to pull off incredible superhero games based on comic books that would stay with fans. As Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 closes on its release, fans have started discussions about whether it will be the best superhero game ever.

A Facebook user, Kasra Redgrave Afra, shared an image in the Facebook group called Spider-Man fans and asked the members their thoughts on the following statement: “Spider-Man 2 has the potential to take Arkham City’s place as best superhero game.”
The post saw hordes of fans and players engaging and sharing their take on the question. Some fans said that the original Spider-Man had already done that. However, that does not tie with everyone’s opinion, and at last, it all comes down to storyline, gameplay, combat, and other elements.
A user, Paul Harvey, said that Spider-Man and Arkham City are completely different games, and comparing them is like comparing GTA to Saints Row. He is not actually wrong, though. As much as these games have brought Marvel and DC fans closer, they are loved for distinct reasons.
Another fan joked that Arkham City was so good that the only way for Spider-Man to compete was to copy it. Marvel’s Spider-Man is also the most-selling superhero game of all time in the US, indicating its popularity among the masses, but many still prefer Arkham games.
Which Is the Greatest Superhero Game – Spider-Man or Batman: Arkham?
Many of the users on the post added that Batman Arkham City is way ahead of Marvel’s Spider-Man with its narrative and atmosphere and also alleged that if Rocksteady did not develop the free-flow combat system, the Spider-Man game wouldn’t be on the scale it is now. Insomniac had also acknowledged that it took Batman‘s combat ideas for Spider-Man.
The choices of fans can surely differ, but it is important to note that both game series have some of the best superhero titles ever launched, and with the set standards, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 can only take it further with its addition of brand new game mechanics and features that have been appreciated by fans so far. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20, exclusively for PS5.
