A lot of international actors struggle with adjusting to the ways of Hollywood or acting in general when they move to America. Sofía Vergara also has struggled with adjusting to the ways of Hollywood but the actress has been making a lot of headlines recently as she is all set to portray the role of drug lord Griselda Blanco in the Netflix biographic crime mini-series, Griselda.
In a recent interview, the actress opened up about how despite her being one of the biggest stars in the industry at the moment, her roles are still limited because of her Colombian accent.
Sofía Vergara hates her iconic accent
Sofía Vergara first made a name for herself in the industry when she portrayed the role of Gloria Pritchett in the ABC sitcom, Modern Family for almost 11 years. The Colombian actress even received four Primetime Emmy award nominations for her portrayal throughout the 11-season long run of the show.
Despite being one of the most established actresses in the industry, Vergara has never portrayed a dramatic role and is mostly in comedy movies or series. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, the actress revealed how her roles in the industry are limited by her accent. She said,
“I’m always looking for characters because there’s not much that I can play with this stupid accent. I can’t play a scientist or be in ‘Schindler’s List.’ My acting jobs are kind of limited.”

Sofía Vergara further talked about how she was very skeptical about portraying the role of drug lord Griselda Blanco in the upcoming Netflix series, Griselda as well. The Colombian actress revealed that she even started doubting herself the night before she was to start filming. However, Vergara eventually found a way to deal with those feelings and she even found a way to portray the role of Griselda Blanco to perfection as well. She said,
“When I was in those scenes [as Griselda], it was like anger and a lot of things about my upbringing and where I come from and who I am. I knew those people. My brother was in that business. I knew those feelings.
And I understand because all those people that have done really bad things, they’re not all the time bad. They think they’re doing the right thing for people. It’s absurd, yeah, because they’re doing horrible things, but I knew the mentality.”

Griselda has received positive reviews so far with 86% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and the fans have praised Sofía Vergara for her portrayal of the drug lord in the series as well.
Griselda is currently streaming on Netflix.
