If there’s a character who is the breakout star of the new Star Wars era, then it’s undoubtedly Grogu. The little green alien stole everyone’s hearts when it appeared in The Mandalorian, and since then everyone has rooted for him to become a powerful Jedi and Mandalorian. With the show presumably coming to an end soon, will we lose Grogu too?

Fans don’t think so. Many think that we will next see Baby Yoda in the recently announced Rey Skywalker movie set 15 years from The Rise of Skywalker. But that’s not all. There’s heavy speculation that in the timeline of the film, Grogu would already have become a Jedi master.

Will Grogu Be In Post-Sequel Trilogy Rey Skywalker Movie?

At the 2023 annual Star Wars Celebrations convention, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced three new Star Wars films. One is being helmed by James Mangold, the second one by Dave Filoni, and the third by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The last film will focus on Rey as she builds up the Jedi order again. In an interview with IGN, Kennedy gave more details about the film:

“Well we’re 15 years out from ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ so we’re post-war, post-First Order, and the Jedi are in disarray. There’s a lot of discussion around, ‘Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What’s the state of the galaxy?’ She’s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.”

On the other hand, Dave Filoni’s Star Wars film will conclude the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. As such, many have wondered if Grogu’s story will end here. Others think that Baby Yoda can continue with Rey as she embarks on her journey to rebuild the Jedi order. In her search for Force users and Jedi, it’s possible that she will encounter Grogu.

What lends credence to this theory is that Grogu’s journey has just begun and he is already a fan-favorite character. So they likely won’t discard him soon. Since he belongs to Yoda’s species, he has a long lifespan. As such, he can definitely be a part of Rey’s journey. So it would be almost criminal to end his story this soon. However, there’s still one question remaining- Grogu has already chosen the Mandalorian way over the Jedi. So how will he be a Jedi Master?

Fans Think Grogu Will Be In The New Star Wars Film With Rey

Even though Grogu has chosen Din Djarin and the Way of the Mandalorian over Luke and the Jedi way, it doesn’t conclusively mean that he can’t master the latter. In fact, one popular theory that has circulated for a long time is that Baby Yoda is going to be the second Mandalorian Jedi after Tarre Vizsla. He already has Jedi training and now he’s getting to learn about the Mandalorian way of life. So he now knows about the best of both worlds.

So here’s what the fans think about Grogu’s fate in the Star Wars franchise:

Thanks to being with Din Djarin, Grogu now knows that the old-fashioned Jedi way of sacrificing relationships isn’t right. Since Rey was trained by Luke in the old ways, she could make the same mistakes as him that could lead to the collapse of the Jedi again. But Grogu can prevent her from making those mistakes by showing her another way. This can possibly make the Jedi Order stronger than it has ever been before. However, these are all just theories. It remains to be seen whether Grogu’s tenure ends with Filoni’s Star Wars film or not.

The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+, but the release dates of the new Star Wars films have not been announced.
