When something like this happens, it creates a large amount of hype within the gaming community, and if Rockstar does not follow through with that hype, then there will be a catastrophic fall, which could lead the team down a hole that it may never recover from.

Since Grand Theft Auto 6 has been in development hell for many years now, it is entirely understandable that the gaming community is looking forward to its release, but this isn’t the first time that gamers have gotten excited over a game’s release and been let down. I’m looking at you, Duke Nukem Forever.

Why Is Rockstar at Risk of Becoming Another Company to Fall Into Obscurity?

Could Rockstar be in trouble if GTA 6 doesn't succeed?
GTA 6 could be Rockstar’s last chance at staying as a popular studio.

Over the years, Rockstar has created many fantastic games that have received a lot of positive responses from gamers and have kept gamers playing them for years. Recently, the developer has begun to slow down slightly as it is no longer creating some of its older IPs while also taking its sweet time developing the major franchises that players are dying for.

When gamers think about Rockstar, the main games that come to mind are GTA and Red Dead Redemption, and that is completely understandable as that is all that is currently being developed at the studio at this current time.

However, there used to be other IPs that were developed at Rockstar that were quite popular amongst gamers, such as the Bully series. Similar to GTA, Bully was a third-person game that followed the life of a young student who was always creating trouble and defying authority.

Even though this was a step down from games like Grand Theft Auto 6 and Red Dead Redemption, it was an incredibly popular game that has sadly been abandoned by Rockstar. This isn’t the first IP that the team has abandoned over the years, which is a real shame as they would be quite popular in today’s market.

Now the studio is stuck depending on games like Grand Theft Auto 6 to generate enough profit to keep the lights on, which is a real shame, as Rockstar is a strong developer that clearly cares about the games it develops. Sadly, after witnessing the mess of the recent Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, which was very negatively received by the gaming community, there were literally no changes to the games that were released.

This isn’t the first time that Rockstar has made this mistake, as they also did the exact same thing with Red Dead Redemption, as they released a remastered version with next to no changes and expected players to pay even more money for it.

Will GTA 6 Have an Online Mode, and Will It Be Treated the Same as It Was for GTA 5?

Could Rockstar be in trouble if GTA 6 doesn't succeed?
Gamers worried GTA 6‘s online mode could release just like GTA 5‘s.

Since the release of GTA 5, there has been the GTA Online mode, which allowed players to group up with their friends, complete heists, and just commit all kinds of chaos. This was a rather fun feature in the game, as players were able to do all kinds of game modes with their friends in the world of GTA while also having fewer consequences than there would be in the main game.

However, where there is fun, there is also sadness, as GTA Online was sadly handled badly by Rockstar and had a rather rocky beginning. As always with a project, there were a few issues from the beginning, like simple crashes and bugs, but over time, these issues were fixed.

After many years of the service being live, there have been a few updates that bring with them new content for players to enjoy, which all tend to be free updates that anyone can access. However, there is a large amount of monetization within GTA Online, as there is the option to buy money within the game to save grinding for it, which opens up the option to just purchase everything in the game with real money.

For many reasons, this is frowned upon by the gaming community, as it is referred to as pay-to-win, as it provides gamers with the opportunity to just purchase things with real-world money, which provides them with an advantage within the game itself.

If Grand Theft Auto 6 follows this path in its own GTA Online, then there will most likely be a lot of negative responses from gamers, as this is already frowned upon within the community, and if it continues, it proves that Rockstar is only creating it for the profits rather than for the gamers who play it.

Have the Changes to the Staff at Rockstar Affected Grand Theft Auto 6 and Its Upcoming Release?

Could Rockstar be in trouble if GTA 6 doesn't succeed?
Gamers are worried that the turnover in Rockstar could have affected GTA 6.

Whenever it comes to any business, there is bound to be a change of staff as time progresses, and Rockstar is no different. Since Grand Theft Auto 6 began its development many years ago, there has been a lot of change within Rockstar, as many staff members have left and joined while the project has been in development.

For many reasons, this has obviously affected the game’s development, as it has taken many years for the game to be developed, and there have most likely been changes to the development plan as staff members left and joined.

Since there have been so many changes within Rockstar, this could have affected Grand Theft Auto 6 in many ways, but it has also brought in a lot of expectations from gamers, as they are expecting a larger map, more content on release, and a fantastic story.

This is all down to hype, unfortunately, and isn’t confirmed by Rockstar, but many gamers are hoping for over double the size of a map that GTA 5 had, with a lot more to explore while also having a lot more side quests and NPCs to encounter within the world of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Until a teaser trailer is released, we do not know whether or not Grand Theft Auto 6 will live up to this hype, but if Rockstar is hoping to continue creating games like Grand Theft Auto 6, then there is a desperate need for it to meet the hype that players have built up over the years.

If Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t meet the hype that has been built up, it is highly likely that Rockstar will attempt to bring players back with the online mode that will most likely accompany the game upon its release. If this mode can meet players expectations, then there could be a potential saving grace for Rockstar that could ultimately save the company from going under.
